Simon would have done anything to save his best friend after a mysterious accident almost killed her--including follow her into a virtual world. And what he and Kat discovered there was more terrifying than they could have ever imagined. Unwitting hospital patients are being forced to test a device that lets VR be experienced with all five senses. The technology is so advanced that it's deadly.
Now the world's biggest tech corporation is hunting Simon and Kat while war rages in Otherworld, the virtual world it created. Determined to destroy the Company, Simon and Kat must join forces with a hacker, a gangster, and a digital entity. But as they battle to save two worlds, they uncover an all-new threat to our world: the Company's latest creation, an augmented-reality game called OtherEarth. Not only does OtherEarth kill, it has the power to erase the line between what's real and what's fantasy.

Why I can't wait for this one!
Well, at least THIS time, I've found out about this with the upcoming release of the second book in what will be a trilogy. And WOWZA!!!! This sure promises to be a futuristic tour-de-force!! So I have to grab the first book right away!! And oh, did I mention that cover? It's absolutely FANTABULOUS!!!
Be sure to catch the first book
in this trilogy!!
Some of my books are what librarians call Middle Grade. (Kiki Strike, Nightmares!)
Some should be kept away from small children and people with weak stomachs. (How to Lead a Life of Crime, The Eternal Ones, Otherworld)
I write some books with Jason Segel.
I've written quite a few books on my own.
I'm an Aquarius.
My favorite food is cauliflower. (No joke.)
I will eat almost anything. And I'm weirdly
proud of it.
I believe New York City is the most
magical place on earth.
I love Dolly Parton and David Attenborough. Equally.
I cannot sing or play any musical instruments.
I once broke into a Mayan temple with my brother, Spike.
Spike is an alias. It's not his real name.
I also have a sister. She prefers to remain anonymous.
We have the same birthday.
Yes, that sucks.
I think that's all you need to know.

perfect for fans of HBO's Westworld?! I'm obsessed with Westworld so I feel these books are calling out to me. Also didn't know Jason Segel writes books. Mind = blown lol
ReplyDeleteHi, Steph!
DeleteHubby and I don't have HBO, so I don't know anything about "Westworld". It sounds like it's probably an exciting show, though. I need to Google it.
When I came across these books, I had never heard of either the books or Jason Segel. I think it's AWESOME that he's an author as well as an actor! I had never heard of Kirsten Miller, either. Live and learn!
Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS!!! <3 :)
Virtual worlds can yield some great science fiction. It gives authors a lot of freedom to go into all sorts of directions. I wish that the book blurb gave a little more information about the world itself.
ReplyDeleteHi, Brian!
DeleteI've noticed that the theme of virtual worlds is a VERY popular one in Young Adult SF. But I've also seen it in at least one adult SF novel I read, some time back. That book is titled "The Demi-Monde", by Rod Rees. It was a VERY interesting take on virtual worlds! If you're interested, you can find my review on the Book Reviews page.
I agree that it would have been nice if the blurb of "OtherEarth" had given more information about the virtual world in the novel.
Thanks for the interesting comment!! <3 :)
These covers are awesome. I like how they relate yet are different - I know that probably doesn't make a lot of sense. I'll have to see if my library has these. I also love the author bios. I have the Segal's middle grade series but guess what? I haven't gotten to them. Hope you are doing well. The boys say hello and I will kick you an email out this weekend - I know I'm past due for one!
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb!
DeleteActually, I prefer the cover of the second book, because of the colors. But they're both striking! And yes, they do relate to each other, although there are differences -- in the colors, as well as the composition.
I want to check out the first book in my local library, too, because I'm wondering if it will be a bit scary. After all, the blurb for "OtherEarth" does include the word "terrifying". But the cover attracted me, and it IS science fiction, which is a genre I love! But yes, SF can at times have a scary component. That's why I never wanted to see ANY of the "Alien" movies! Lol.
I really like Miller's bio the best! I got it from her website, as there was no bio for her on Goodreads.
I had never heard of these authors or their previous books before I came across them on Goodreads. They do sound AWESOME!
Yup, hubby and I are doing quite well! :)
Those boys are SO sweet, and so is their mama!!! <3 <3
I'll be looking forward to your email! Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE BOYS, AND "WOOF, WOOF" TO THEM!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I hope you enjoy these books! I remember the initial buzz for the first book and I can't wait to see your thoughts ^_^
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,

Hi, Brittany!
DeleteYes, I do, too!! They SURE look GREAT!!
I have just discovered this author, so I also found out that the first book in the series was a real hit when it was first released! Gotta get to it!
You're very welcome for the sharing! And thanks to YOU for commenting!! <3 :)
I am always a little leary of actors turned author fare, but it sounds like the first book has done well. I can see why you want to read this trilogy, Maria. It sounds right up your alley. I hope you love it when you read it! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHi, Wendy!
DeleteI've been a little skeptical of this type of thing, too, to be quite honest. However, when I first across "OtherEarth", I also discovered the first book, "OtherWorld", and found out that it had been a HUGE success! So that settled it -- I've put both books on my Goodreads shelves! And yes, these books are right up my alley! ABSOLUTELY!! I'm pretty sure I'll LOVE both books!!
Thanks for the nice comment!! Hope you're all having a GREAT Saturday!! HUGS TO YOU AND MOUSE!! <3 <3 :) :)
I haven't managed to get around to the first one quite yet but I'm hoping to squeeze it in soon!
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie!
DeleteI've just discovered these books, but I really want to read them, as they sound AWESOME!!
Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)
Looks fun! Virtual reality plus people being tested on in hospitals (I always like that for some reason)- sounds totally awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi, Greg!
DeleteYeah, I LOVE such plots myself!! So I'm pretty sure I'll really enjoy these books!
Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)
