In this new instalment in the No. 1 New York Times bestselling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves . . .

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.

And a coyote shapeshifter . . . And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.
Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn't stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.
But we are pack, and we have given our word. We will die to keep it.

Why I can't wait for this one!

OH.MY.GOSH. Yes, yes, I know....I need to start with the first book first.....but I just couldn't resist showcasing this latest installment in this bestselling series!!! And....this is one of my New Year's resolutions -- to start reading this series already!! Because I am ALWAYS interested in novels about kick-butt female protagonists, and Mercy Thompson is the quintessential one!! And, of course, this latest book  sounds so FREAKING GOOD!!!!

  1. This sounds very interesting. I was surprised to see that this is book number 11. Based on the plot description I would have guessed that it was the second book in the series. I always wonder if the writer is able to keep up the quality over so many books.

It is interesting thaf the protagonist is an auto mechanic. It is obviously a rare profession for a woman. I have a very old friend who was a mechanic in college. I had lost touch with her for over 25 years. We recently reconnected. She is now a registered nurse, which was something that she had wanted to do in college.

    1. Hi, Brian!

It SURE does!! However, it does sound like this could be the second book in the series.

As for the quality of each installment in the series, it really varies with each author. I greatly enjoyed all of the Harry Potter books, for instance. I only stopped midway through the sixth one because of a very tragic event that had me crying my eyes out. But as far as quality, they were each GREAT! This in spite of the fact that they do get darker as the series moves on.

Another series I enjoyed tremendously, from start to finish, was the Vampire Academy series. It was six books, and I loved them all!

Then there was a Sherlock Holmes "retelling", the first volume of which, "A Study in Charlotte", was TERRIFIC. The second one, "The Last of August, not so much....

Yes, indeed, women auto mechanics are not all that common. I think it's because of all that grease. Lol. Perhaps women who are fascinated by machines would prefer becoming engineers. I certainly would, if I were interested in machines. I do LOVE the sleek lines of certain expensive cars, like the Lamborghini. At one time, I did consider studying car design. But there weren't any good programs in my immediate vicinity, alas! And I dwas unable to go to a university or college out of town..... :( Actually, though, I much prefer fine art. Any type of commercial art always has to be produced on a deadline. I HATE deadlines!!

How interesting that your old friend ended up becoming a nurse. I'm telling you, it HAS to be the grease! Lol.

Thanks for the interesting comment!! <3 :)

  2. I love the artwork on this entire series and hey, I've at least read the first 7 or 8. I seriously need to catch up. There's also a spin-off series I need to read as well. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that Mercedes is a mechanic. I often wish I had learned more from my dad when he was alive - he was an awesome mechanic and worked for the school board for years. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas my friend. Bring on THUG! I have it slated on my calendar for the 11th. Can't wait!

    1. Hi, Barb!

Oh, YEAH, the covers of this entire series are indeed AMAZING!! And you've read the first 7 or 8 books? WOW!! I need to catch up MUCH more than you do, as I haven't even read the very first one! LOL. And there's also a spinoff series?! Geez. I have a LOT of books to catch up with..... Lol.

I agree that it's great that Mercedes is a mechanic, although I would never be interested in being one myself. I can't stand grease!! Lol. How wonderful, though, that your dad was one, and that you wish you had learned more from him. You must miss your dad a lot.... I sure miss mine!

Yes, we had a WONDERFUL Christmas!! Hope all of you did, too!! And I'm SURE the pups treated Mom like a queen, right? "ARF, ARF"!!

So we're on for THUG on the 11th? YAAAAAAY!!! We FINALLY get to do it!!! I can't wait, either!! :) :) :)

Thanks for the lively and lovely comment!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE PUPS, AND "WOOF, WOOF" TO THEM!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
