About The Book

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake returns with the highly anticipated third book in the Three Dark Crowns series! And while Arsinoe, Mirabella, and Katharine all have their own scores to settle, they aren’t the only queens stirring things up on Fennbirn Island.

Queen Katharine has waited her entire life to wear the crown. But now that she finally has it, the murmurs of dissent grow louder by the day. There’s also the alarming issue of whether or not her sisters are actually dead—or if they’re waiting in the wings to usurp the throne.

Mirabella and Arsinoe are alive, but in hiding on the mainland and dealing with a nightmare of their own: being visited repeatedly by a specter they think might be the fabled Blue Queen. Though she says nothing, her rotting, bony finger pointing out to sea is clear enough: return to Fennbirn.

Jules, too, is in a strange place—in disguise. And her only confidants, a war-gifted girl named Emilia and her oracle friend Mathilde, are urging her to take on a role she can’t imagine filling: a legion-cursed queen who will lead a rebel army to Katharine’s doorstep.

This is an uprising that the mysterious Blue Queen may have more to do with than anyone could have guessed—or expected.

Why I can't wait (I think) for this one!

Well, I actually have mixed feelings about this one, because this is the author of books like Anna Dressed In Blood....and I do NOT do horror! Lol. However.... this book looks like it's just fantasy. Blake does have a tendency to write violent scenes, as mentioned in her bio below. But, heck, I'm willing to give this series a try, since I LOVE fantasy! I might try to get a free copy of the first book in the series, either from a library, the publisher, or NetGalley. The Kindle edition is an UNBELIEVABLE $9.99! I am SO not paying for simple download! LOL.

Here are the two previous books in
this best-selling series!!

About the Author

Kendare Blake is the author of several novels and short stories. Her work is sort of dark, always violent, and features passages describing food from when she writes while hungry. She was born in July (for those of you doing book reports) in Seoul, South Korea, but doesn’t speak a lick of Korean, as she was packed off at a very early age to her adoptive parents in the United States. That might be just an excuse, though, as she is pretty bad at learning foreign languages. She enjoys the work of Milan Kundera, Caitlin R Kiernan, Bret Easton Ellis, Richard Linklater, and the late, great Michael Jackson, I mean, come on, he gave us Thriller.

She lives and writes in Kent, Washington, with her husband, their cat son Tyrion Cattister, red Doberman dog son Obi-Dog Kenobi, rottie mix dog daughter Agent Scully, and naked sphynx cat son Armpit McGee.

  2. This sounds different. Based on the plot description There does seem to be an element of the macabre in the story. The reference to the bony corpse and the use of the word strange and curse may indicate that.

I like the cover art. It. The combination of the black and the pictured objects work very welll.

    1. Hi, Brian!

Yes, it certainly does! And I must confess to being a bit worried about that macabre element, too....

I think I'll try getting a library card again, just so I can check the first book out of my local library. Just in case! Lol.

Oh, I really like the cover art, as well! I don't exactly love it, but I do like it quite a bit!

      Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)

Oh, you have the first book? Yeah, you need to read it! I think I'll borrow it from the library, to see if I do like it.

  4. I've heard good things about this series, although I haven't started reading it. Good luck getting a free copy of the first book, I agree, it sounds a bit pricey!

    1. Hi, Tammy!

Yeah, it's supposed to be a really good series!

I think I'll try to get a copy of the first book at my local library, to see if I want to read the rest of the series.

Some Kindle books are cheap, but not all of them. If a book is a bestseller, then the Kindle edition is usually NOT cheap. I refuse to pay more than $4.99 for a simple download. (Wit the exception of "Twilight", the first book in The Twilight Saga. I paid $6.99 for it. Lol.)

      Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)

  5. I've also heard good things about this series. I know my library has them if I'm ever interested. I agree with the ebook price. That's ridiculous. Hope you are having a great July!

    1. Hi, Barb!

Yeah, this series is supposed to be REAL good! My local library should have these books, too. I'm going to see if I can check out the first one in the series. If I like it, then I can go on to the rest of the books.

You know, many Kindle books are pretty cheap, but not all of them are. As I told Tammy in my comment above, I totally refuse to pay more than $4.99 for a simple download! The first book in The Twilight Saga was an exception to that. Lol.

So far, July has been a pretty good month....except for the HEAT. We're getting temps in the 90s down here. UGH. The other day, one of my FB friends posted that it was 119F where she lives!! HORRIBLE. She didn't specify where she was, though. I wonder if she lives in Arizona. I know it's get pretty HOT there!

Hope your July is going well! <3 <3 :) :)

Thanks for commenting!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE BOYS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
