Here is this week's question:

If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, which would you pick?
Fictional ones count, too!

This is the easiest question I've ever had to answer in any of the Feature & Follow posts!

The animal I would definitely pick was my childhood dream pet, the animal I pretended to see running beside my parents' car as I sat in the back seat when we went on Sunday drives: The Black Stallion.

I fell in love with this horse, created by Walter Farley, around the age of 10 or 11. And, to this day, the Arabian breed is my favorite horse breed.

I used to dream of having The Black Stallion as a pet. I would groom him, hug him, and ride him bareback, and he would run like the wind! He would be gentle with me, and no one else. Our friendship would last forever.....

I've read just about every Black Stallion book written by Farley.  He wrote about other horses, too, of course, but my heart will only, and always, belong to "The Black" as he is known in the books......

  7. This is a great post Maria.

My wife also loves horses. I also like them as I tend to like most mammals.

I never read the Black Stallion books but I think that they helped to fuel the love of horses in a lot of people.

  8. Hey, Brian!

You know, writing about this horse has brought back memories.... My love of horses was sparked when I first came across this book! I had never thought of them before. But after reading this novel, as well as "Black Beauty", I became obsessed with these creatures.

I've also read the Flicka trilogy -- "My Friend Flicka", "Thunderhead", and "Green Grass of Wyoming", by Mary O'Hara.

To me, horses are the most BEAUTIFUL animals on this planet, and I think this is especially true of the Arabian breed. (The Black Stallion is an Arabian.) They have special characteristics that make them even more beautiful than other breeds. There are indeed, other beautiful breeds, but they have Arabian ancestry, which is why they are so beautiful.

Sadly, I have never had a horse, nor much contact with them throughout my life.....The only horses I do own are stuffed animals. Lol. I have a small stuffed horse from the Disney movie "Mulan", and a large Appaloosa (he's brown and white). The large one is especially good for cuddling!

Thnanks for the compliment and great comment!! : )
