I've just started reading this book, which everyone is simply raving about! Since I love fairy tale retellings, and the "Beauty and the Beast" story happens to be one of my favorites, I decided to check this book out. And now I'm greatly enjoying my very first Sarah J. Maas novel!
Right from the start, I was hooked. This is a vividly told story, with solid characters and a great writing style.
I found this prose gem on page 3:
"Once it had been second nature to savor the contrast of new grass against dark, tilled soil, or an amethyst brooch nestled in folds of emerald silk; once I'd dreamed and breathed and thought in color and light and shape."
I just love the flow of words in this beautiful passage. The pictures Maas conjures, the interesting contrast between an image from nature and one from objects crafted by humans, make this sentence a special delight to read. I also love the idea of dreaming, breathing and thinking "in color and light and shape".
Sarah J. Maas is truly an awesome writer!
