Rebel Seoul
Axie Oh
Hardcover, 432 pages
Tu Books
September 15, 2017
Diverse Reads, Science Fiction,
Young Adult Fiction
After a great war, the
East Pacific is in ruins. In brutal Neo Seoul, where status comes from
success in combat, ex-gang member Lee Jaewon is a talented pilot rising
in the ranks of the academy. Abandoned as a kid in the slums of Old
Seoul by his rebel father, Jaewon desires only to escape his past and
prove himself a loyal soldier of the Neo State.
When Jaewon is recruited into the most lucrative weapons development division in Neo Seoul, he is eager to claim his best shot at military glory. But the mission becomes more complicated when he meets Tera, a test subject in the government’s supersoldier project. Tera was trained for one purpose: to pilot one of the lethal God Machines, massive robots for a never-ending war.
With secret orders to report on Tera, Jaewon becomes Tera’s partner, earning her reluctant respect. But as respect turns to love, Jaewon begins to question his loyalty to an oppressive regime that creates weapons out of humans. As the project prepares to go public amidst rumors of a rebellion, Jaewon must decide where he stands—as a soldier of the Neo State, or a rebel of the people.
Pacific Rim meets Korean action dramas in this mind-blowing, New Visions Award-winning science fiction debut.

Why I can't wait for this one!
The play on words in this title was what caught my attention first, although I also liked the cover. Then I read the synopsis, and got hooked right away! Not only is it an EXCITING story, but also, it's SF, as well as a diverse read. I've been meaning to read more of these two types of fiction, as well as, of course, more YA!! So this book is right up my alley! Besides, I've never read any SF with Korean characters, and I think it's about time I did!!

Heh, I like the play on words too. This might be too SF for my taste, but I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteHi, Verushka!
DeleteYeah, I think it's GREAT!
Aw....I was hoping you would really like it... I'm kinda surprised you don't, since you enjoyed my review of that Star Trek novel I read recently -- "The Rings of Tautee". But thanks for hoping I'll enjoy it!!
Thanks for the honest comment, Verushka!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
Ah I have to be honest, this isn't my type of read :( I'm very fussy when it comes to sci fi, and I really don't like this cover either (although I guess I shouldn't be judging it by the cover, lol).
ReplyDeleteBut I hope you LOVE it when you read it, Maria!! And I do love the fact it's a diverse read!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!! HUGS!! :) :) <3 <3
Here's my WoW

Ooh this one's new to me! I like the South Korean setting and the dystopian, Pacific Rim- ish sound of it. Looks very exciting and yay for some SF diversity.

ReplyDeleteThe cover didn't catch my attention this time BUT after reading the synopsis I can say that the argument won my interest. Although I don't usually read SF, I love dystopias so it will definitely be on my TBR :)
It's always a pleasure to visit you <3
Take care, XOXO
Hi, Mailén!
