Her vengeance. His vision.

Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.

Why I'm waiting on this one!

I have just discovered another series to loooove!!!  And the really GREAT thing here is that this is the very FIRST book! So I have some time to catch up!  The plot sounds totally exciting and riveting, too, and the idea of including alchemy in it is totally fascinating! In short, I will be on the lookout for this one come next January!!

  6. I have the first couple of books in her other series, but am afraid to read them now because a lot of readers aren't liking the series as it goes on. I did spot this one on Goodreads he other day and the cover grabbed me. I may just try this one. Great pick!

  7. Alchemy being included in the plot sounds original. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of another fantasy series that includes this in the plot.

The cover in also striking. I think that it would also make a good choice for Shelf Candy Saturday.

    1. Hey, Brian!

Actually, J.K. Rowling does incorporate alchemy into the Harry Potter series. In the first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (which was published in Britain as "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"), she mentions Nicolas Flamel, who was an actual person. He was a French scribe and manuscript seller who lived in the 14th century, and was reputed to be an alchemist.

In the HP series, Flamel is a friend of Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School. Flamel discovered the Elixir of Life, using the Stone. It's really interesting how Rowling weaves a real, historical figure into the plot of this novel!

I love this cover, too! I might feature it on "Shelf Candy Saturday". Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks as well for the nice comment!! :)
