  10. Happy Blogoversary Maria!

Your site is so unique, creative and worthwhile. I am glad that I have discovered it and have gotten to know you over the years.

As for the book that I would choose- Do you remember a few months ago that you recommended a couple of what you considered substantive and quality YA books to me? I do not recall the titles. If you do not remember the books I can go back and find the email. I would choose one of those.

  15. Hey, Brian!

Oh, thank you so much for the congrats, as well as for your kind words!! I love your blog as well, and in fact, it was your blog, BABBLING BOOKS, that inspired me to start my second blog, MINDSPIRIT BOOK JOURNEYS, so I could discuss classics, literary fiction, and nonfiction, since I LOVE those genres just as much as YA!

As for the YA recommendations I have mentioned to you, I do recall one -- "Of Beast and Beauty", by Stacey Jay. Although it's basically a romance novel, the philosophical underpinnings are fascinating, as it deals with issues of feminism, prejudice and protection of the environment. This is truly a GREAT read!!

Here's the link to my review:

Another YA novel I would unhesitatingly recommend to you is "A Thousand Pieces of You", by Claudia Gray, who happens to be one of my favorite YA writers. This one, also a romance (we females LOVE romance novels), also deals with the fascinating concept of parallel dimensions, and there's a gadget that enables its wearer to traverse these dimensions; it's called "The Firebird". This name reminds me of the Stravinsky ballet by the same name.

So I think you'd really enjoy either one of these books! They are really very thought-provoking reads!

Thanks so much for participating in the giveaway, and for leaving such a SUPER nice comment!! : )

  16. Thanks Maria.

I remember your commentary on these books. These books sound like they are full of interesting ideas and worth a read, I will likely give one or both a try sometime in the future.

The issue of them being romances is not an issue. Some of the greatest works of all time can be considered romances, such as Jayne Eyrie, many of the Anthony Trollope novels, etc.

  17. HAPPY BLOGVERSARY!!! Congratulations on the milestone that is five years!! Your options look so great and I want to get The Wrath and the Dawn because I've been hearing amazing things about it. Thank you for the chance!

  19. Hi, again, Vania!

Yup! Coming right up! : )

  20. Hi again, Brian!

You're very welcome! I do think you will enjoy reading these books, as they are indeed full of interesting ideas!

You're right that many great classics are romances. The reason I thought you might not be interested in these, though, is because they are YA romances. They might seem a bit juvenile to you. However, the non-romance elements in both books are thought-provoking, so you will definitely like them.

Actually, sometimes I do find YA books more interesting and rewarding to read than books written for adults. Still, I think it does depend on the author.

Thanks for the second comment!! : )
