Stacking The Shelves #2

This is a weekly book meme/blog hop hosted by Jennifer, Lili, Stephanie, and Tynga @ Tynga's ReviewsAs the title implies, this is all about sharing the books you're adding to your shelves, be they physical or virtual.  For the complete rules and to sign up, just click on the link above.

Books I bought:

The Morganville Vampires Series
(Volumes #1 to #6)
Urban Fantasy, YA Fiction

I've heard a lot of great things about this young adult series, so when I saw these books, I just had to have them!  I much prefer the UK covers, too; I think they're simply stunning

Morganville, Texas, is a different sort of town -- one that is secretly controlled by vampires.  Claire Danvers, a 16-year-old student at Texas Prairie University, is the main protagonist.  The series currently encompasses 13 books, and is projected to reach 15.   According to Wikipedia, "It has been announced on the author's website that the rights to a Morganville Vampire film/TV series and any other multimedia production have been sold to the people behind the popular series Red Dwarf ".

Received for Review:

(The Demi-Monde Saga)
Trade Paperback, 528 pages
William Morrow Paperbacks
October 9, 2012
Science Fiction, Dystopian Fiction

Goodreads Synopsis

The U.S. military created the Demi-Monde to train its soldiers in urban warfare. A virtual world of 30 million inhabitants ruled by cyber-duplicates of some of history's most dangerous psychopaths--from Grand Inquisitor Torquemada to fanatical Nazi butcher Rudolph Heydrich--it is a twisted nightmare and anything but a game. Because if you die inside the Demi-Monde, you die in the Real World.

The U.S. President's daughter has been lured into this terrifying shadow world and her only hope of rescue is Ella Thomas, an eighteen-year-old student and jazz singer who's never received a day of military training...

  2. Hey, Grace!

Yeah, I've been wanting to read this series like, forever! I had never heard of "The Demi-Monde", either, but signed up with a new tour company featuring it. I decided to try it out, so they sent me a paperback copy.

Glad you liked my haul, and thanks for commenting back!! :)

  3. Hey there!
    Nice haul. I like it.
I do suggest reading Forever My Girl if you're into YA/NA contemporary.
I can't wait to read Prodigy! I just have to finish the gazillion other books I've bought first...
And Free Four is a pretty sweet novella.
I completely understand why you wouldn't want to read eBooks. I was against eBooks for a long, long time.
But I do a lot of traveling, and I've found that it's really hard to be in another country with only a heavy suitcase of books and no clothes. Though it is better than having no books at all. That would be barbaric.
It's also cheaper, as a lot of eBooks are half the price of print books, sometimes free.
I do try to buy print books whenever I go to the bookstore. I much prefer print books to eBooks. Who doesn't? with eBooks you can't smell the pages, or treat every book as individual, or hold it like its the most prescious thing known to man.
Melodrama aside, I love print books, especially paperback. And I love the fact that you will continue to go against eBooks. Ebooks are convienient for me, otherwise I wouldn't use them.

  4. Hey, Kacii!

I'm glad you like my haul! I'm also glad you understand how I feel about ebooks. It's true that they're convenient, and I can see why you need to buy them, since you do travel a lot. Yes, print books can be heavy... I just can't get used to the idea of reading an ENTIRE book on a freaking machine. I can handle reading blog posts, which, after all, are also on a machine. But a whole book? No way. I just can't. Someday, though, I might just have to start buying ebooks, since my place is SO full of print books, I don't know where to put them anymore... But I will resist just as long as I possibly can!! Lol.
