About the Book

The Lost for Words Bookshop is a compelling, irresistible, and heart-rending novel, perfect for fans of The Storied Life of AJ Fikry and The Little Paris Bookshop.

You can trust a book to keep your secret . . .

Loveday Cardew prefers books to people. If you look closely, you might glimpse the first lines of the novels she loves most tattooed on her skin. But there are things she'll never show you.

Fifteen years ago Loveday lost all she knew and loved in one unspeakable night. Now, she finds refuge in the unique little York bookshop where she works.

Everything is about to change for Loveday. Someone knows about her past. Someone is trying to send her a message. And she can't hide any longer.

Lost for Words is a compelling, irresistible and heart-rending novel, with the emotional intensity of The Shock of the Fall and all the charm of The Little Paris Bookshop and 84 Charing Cross Road.

Why I can't wait for this one!

OMG.......A book about a BOOKSTORE?! And a BOOKWORM who prefers books to people?! Heck, that was ME during my teens!! Lol. OF COURSE I WANT TO READ THIS. And I'm SO happy that I won't have to wait that long, either! This is one of those adult novels that really sounds more like an "angstsy" YA read.  PLUS I want to see how the romance fits into the story..... 'Nuff said!!

About the Author

Stephanie Butland is a writer, who is thriving after breast cancer. (She used to say she was a survivor, but that was a bit lacking in joie de vivre.)
Although she’d never have chosen it, her dance with cancer has changed her life in many positive ways. Now she is happier, healthier, and more careful with her precious life and the precious people and things in it.

Her writing career began with her dance with cancer, and now she is  a novelist.

Aside from writing, she works as a speaker and trainer, and she works with charities to help raise awareness and money in the hope that cancer will soon be about as scary as a wart.

She lives in Northumberland, in the northeastern part of England.

Book Blogger Hop No. 104: Books as 'Necessary' Decor

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop,
hosted by Billy @

This Week's Question

When you enter an unfamiliar
house or apartment for the
first time, do you feel disappointed
if you don't see any bookshelves,
or books on the coffee table?

(Submitted  by Maria @

My Answer

This question came to me after a visit to an acquaintance's house for the first time one afternoon, several months ago. This person was a fellow ESOL teacher at my school, whom I unfortunately didn't see again, as she has since moved out of the area.

When I first walked into her living room, the first thing that caught my attention was a bookcase placed against a wall near one of the windows. Of course I immediately walked over to check out the books on the shelves. I'm sure any bookworm would do the same thing, right? Lol.

After the visit, I remembered, some years back, also visiting a neighbor of mine. At the time, my husband and I were living in another part of the city. When I walked into this neighbor's living room, and looked around, a huge wave  of disappointment hit me. There was not a book in sight. There were no bookshelves at all. There was a coffee table, but no books sat on it, either. I don't recall much of that visit, except for that initial feeling when I stepped into that living room.

I realize this is probably an irrational feeling. Lol. Naturally, I understand that not everyone on the face of the earth adores books the way we bookworms do (especially those who, like me, are also bibliophiles, which I think most of us are). People have different hobbies and interests, after all. But I still feel that initial letdown if I don't see any books when I first walk into a living room for the first time. I guess I somehow expect to see books everywhere I go! Lol. Again, this is totally irrational, but there it is. It's how I feel.

In contrast, when I walked into that teacher's living room and saw her bookcase, the immediate sense of euphoria -- yes, this is the EXACT feeling that suddenly washed over me -- was unmistakable. I immediately felt COMFORTABLE in that living room, as opposed to the neighbor's, where I actually felt as if I had stepped onto a barren land..... It was like totally alien territory, where I actually felt that something very important was missing.

Again, this is irrational. I would NEVER want to impose my likes and dislikes on others. This is not a matter of JUDGING people for not having books in their living room. It's just a feeling I get. I do NOT mention this feeling to the person I'm visiting, of course, as that would be VERY rude. I simply go along with the flow, and chat about whatever comes up.

So some people are simply not into books. So what? However, I guess it's simply not easy for me to understand how someone can just NOT be interested in books. This despite the fact that my family members are not into books. My parents used to read years ago, but now, not that much. Ironically, it was my mom who first exposed me to books, and kept buying them for me as I was growing up, as soon as she saw that I loved them. One day, she realized that she had unleashed a monster. Lol. I just couldn't stop reading, even when she wanted me to help around the house!

The rest of my family is completely indifferent to these precious objects, and they think I'm a bit "looney tunes" because of my bookish obsession. My husband is not into books, either, and he thinks I already have plenty of them, too. Ha, ha! So I wonder if perhaps I am unconsciously looking for validation when entering the houses or apartments of new acquaintances for the first time.

Perhaps it's just a matter of wanting to make real-life friends who share my obsession. (Thankfully, I do have online friends who are DEFINITELY into books!) When I don't see any books in someone's living room, I know I might not become friends with that person. Since books are such a HUGE part of my life, I would naturally want to discuss them with others as much as possible. So, when I see none in sight, my hopes are suddenly dashed. I know I will have to talk about other things with that person, and I might not be into what THEY are into.

So there it is. This is my little irrational, quirky character trait, this intense longing for the sight of BOOKS wherever I go. Maybe I AM a bit "looney tunes". This is the way my brain is wired, though. Lol.

Here is what you will see when you walk into MY living room! (Yes, I know I've posted these pics before, but I just could NOT resist....)

Book Blogger Hop No. 76: Favorite Black Friday Book Deal

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop,

This Week's Question

Name one book that you would
fight for on Black Friday!

(submitted  by Billy@

My Answer

Actually, I don't like Black Friday, except online. The whole concept of people fighting over store deals sounds really horrible. I've heard that some folks have been seriously injured, and even killed, after being trampled by Black Friday store crowds.

I can certainly think of not one, but three books that I would love to get, but I can do so online. No fighting off other shoppers to get them! All I need to do is to go to Amazon, where they have GREAT Black Friday deals!!

Here are the three books. I really want to get started on this series!!   Also, those covers are just EXQUISITELY beautiful!!!!

Have any of you heard of these books? I've seen them on several blogs, and they do have great reviews on Goodreads and Amazon! (Well, the first two do; the third will be published in January, but I'm sure it will be just as good as the previous two!)

Waiting On Wednesday No. 166: The Burning Page, by Genevieve Cogman

This is a weekly event hosted by
It showcases future releases which
we book bloggers
are eagerly anticipating!!

Here's my choice for this week!

The Burning Page
(The Invisible Library, Book 3)
Trade Paperback, 336 pages
Roc
December 6, 2016
Bibliophilia, Fantasy, Steampunk,
Science Fiction, Young Adult Fiction

Librarian spy Irene and her apprentice Kai return for another “tremendously fun, rip-roaring adventure,” (A Fantastical Librarian) third in the bibliophilic fantasy series from the author of The Masked City.

Never judge a book by its cover...

Due to her involvement in an unfortunate set of mishaps between the dragons and the Fae, Librarian spy Irene is stuck on probation, doing what should be simple fetch-and-retrieve projects for the mysterious Library. But trouble has a tendency of finding both Irene and her apprentice, Kai—a dragon prince—and, before they know it, they are entangled in more danger than they can handle...

Irene’s longtime nemesis, Alberich, has once again been making waves across multiple worlds, and, this time, his goals are much larger than obtaining a single book or wreaking vengeance upon a single Librarian. He aims to destroy the entire Library—and make sure Irene goes down with it.

With so much at stake, Irene will need every tool at her disposal to stay alive. But even as she draws her allies close around her, the greatest danger might be lurking from somewhere close—someone she never expected to betray her...

Why I'm waiting on this one!

Here's yet another AWESOME series I've come across! And what I love most about it is that it's a series about BOOKS!! Well, that's more than enough to hook me, but then, on top of that, there's a dragon prince, and lots of magic, so now I want to read all the books published so far!
This is a never-ending story.....lol.

4.)  Be sure to find out next week's
question when you visit
Ramblings of a Coffee-Addicted Writer!

My Answer

No, alas, he does not.....My husband is more of a tech nerd, whereas I am a TOTAL book nerd! Lol. In fact, he really can't understand my obsession with books, especially when it comes to buying them. I already have lots and lots of books in our condo that I haven't read, plus many more in storage, since we had to move last March, and our new place is smaller. He can't understand why I haven't read the books I already own, instead of continuing to buy new ones. Well, it's a bookworm thing, as we all know! There's the allure of the book we don't own yet....

As for actually reading books, he doesn't do much of that, either. He prefers to read short articles on the Internet, or watch tech YouTube videos, or play video games. I can immerse myself for hours in a book, losing track of the world at large. He needs some sort of physical action to keep his attention engaged.

Bookstores certainly do not appeal to him, so he can't see himself spending hours and hours in them, which is what I LOVE to do. On the other hand, he can walk into a computer store and spend hours and hours in there, while I am completely bored.

He's also into biking, and just generally being outdoors. Although I love the outdoors, I can't take it for very long, because of such things as mosquitoes (and now I'm worrying about the Zika virus, people!), the heat, and the fact that I really prefer to use our home bathroom to public restrooms (and, depending on  where we are, there might be no indoor plumbing readily available).

So we just respect each other's tastes, and try not to let our different geeky passions stand in the way of marital harmony.

I'm already looking forward to visiting this year's Miami International Book Fair, scheduled to take place in November! Hubby will drop me off in the morning, and I'll spend the entire day there, blissful in Book Paradise! I'll be browsing, buying, and going to book presentations and signings. Meanwhile, he will probably spend his time tinkering with his laptop's motherboard, biking at Tropical Park, or playing the latest version of "Assassin's Creed", on our living room TV. Or maybe all three, one after the other. Lol.
