Teaser Tuesday/Sci-Fi Month!! These Broken Stars, by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

Welcome to "Teaser Tuesday"!!

This meme is hosted by  Ambrosia @ The Purple Booker every week, and the rules are very simple.

RULES
* Grab you current read.
*Open to a random page.
*Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere
on that page.
*BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS!
(Make sure that what you share doesn't
give too much away! You don't want
to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title and author, too, so that other
TT participants can add the book to their
TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Note
Since I'm a slow reader, I don't have a new book
started every week. I am therefore going
to bend the rules a little.....
I'll be featuring books I want to read,
that are currently sitting on my shelves.
I've also made the teasers a bit longer
than stated in the rules above.

Today I'm also linking up to
Sci-Fi Month!!
This is an exciting event, hosted by
Lisa @ Dear Geek Place
and imyril @ onemore.org!!

For more information, and to
join in, please refer
to my Announcement Post
for this event!!

Here are my teasers!
The morning stretches into a frigid, never-ending drizzle as we head for the river he spotted from higher ground. The mountains we're aiming for are concealed behind a soggy gray curtain. Darker clouds line the horizon, and Tarver glances over his shoulder to track their movement. I'm looking over my shoulder, too, but but there's nothing for me to read in the weather patterns. I simply can't keep myself from searching for the sources of the sounds I keep hearing.  -- Chapter 18, page147

"Wreckage," I whisper, staring at it, trying not to believe it's what I think it is. "It's a piece of the ship that landed there. Another crashed escape pod."

Tarver slowly lets his arm fall, but doesn't shift away again. He's staring at the thing, too. "I don't think so." His voice is quiet, too, barely audible over the wind. "It's hard to tell, but I think the trees around it are cleared, uniform."

I realize I'm holding my breath.

"I think it's a building."

-- Chapter 26, page 232

The Starbound Trilogy: Three worlds. Three love stories. One enemy.

The story behind this book is a sweet one. It was a birthday present from my hubby, about three years ago. Yes, I know....I really should have read it by now! Tell me about it! And it includes romance, too! Well, here's yet another New Year's resolution! Lol. (That dress.....that flowing read hair....I REALLY should be ashamed of myself! Lol.)

What do you think of my teasers?
Are you interested in this book?

  2. The passages that you quoted are well written and the building thing is interesting. The plot description sounds like a lot of stories that have come before. With that, I think that if the author is skillful the novel could still be a good one.

    1. Hi, Brian!

I think that, from what I've sampled of the book, the writing is certainly good, and the characters and plot look interesting, too. I hope I end up liking it!

To be honest, I've never heard of any SF books with this type of plots, but then, you've probably read much more of this genre than I have. There are SO many SF books I really wish I had read by now..... :(

This is the first novel of the Starbound series. I'm not sure if this is a trilogy, or if it will actually become a series. If I don't like this one, I will definitely not go on to the others, lol. I've made that mistake before -- bought an entire series, only to find out that I didn't like the first book.... :(

      Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)

    1. Hi, Greg!

Yeah, it sure does! Let's see how it goes.... If I end up not liking it, I will definitely not move on to the rest of the series. Lol.

I love those quotes, too! This gives me hope that the book will be great! :)

  4. Ooo... I LOVE the sound of this one, Maria. I just hope it isn't allll about the romance and less about the sci fi aspect.

    1. Hi, Sarah!

Glad yo like it! And I agree with you -- I hope the SF doesn't take a back seat to the romance, lol. Well, I'm crossing my fingers! Hopefully, the story will live up to the beautiful cover!
