The fourth book in the New York Times bestselling Charlotte Holmes series!

Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson think they’re finally in the clear. They’ve left Sherringford School—and the Moriartys—behind for a pre-college summer program at Oxford University. A chance to start from scratch and explore dating for the first time, while exploring a new city with all the freedom their program provides. But when they arrive, Charlotte is immediately drawn into a new case: a series of accidents have been befalling the members of the community theater troupe in Oxford, and now, on the eve of their production of Hamlet, they’re starting all over again. What once seemed like a comedy of errors is now a race to prevent the next tragedy—before Charlotte or Jamie is the next victim.

Why I can't wait for this one!

Okay, so THIS time, I HAVE read the first book in this bestselling series, and the second, as well, although I didn't finish the second one. I do plan to give it a second chance, though, because I think the whole concept is a TERRIFIC one! I mean, the female descendant of the great detective, and the male descendant of his famous sidekick? LOVE IT!! Of course, this adds the possibility of some romance, which I totally dig. Interestingly, Cavallaro brings in some family dynamics, as well. So on to the third book! (Before I start on it, though, I will be SURE to give the second book that second chance, and then read the third one.)

The previous books in this series! Click on the covers for my reviews of the first two, and for the GR page of the third.

  1. This looks like a fascinating series, Maria - and as you say, what a fabulous premise! And those covers are fabulous... I'm hoping your issues with the second book are a distant memory in this latest adventure and you thoroughly enjoy this one:))

    1. Hi, Sarah!

Oh, I LOVED the first book!! The second book was a bit disappointing, but I do want to give it a second chance. It's just that I ADORE the original Sherlock Holmes stories, so just about ANY book referencing him will get my enthusiastic interest!

Yes, I'm hoping this book (as well as the third one, which I do own, too), will be a GREAT reading experience!

      Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

    1. Hi, Greg!

Yeah, I DEFINITELY recommend this series to you!! Although I had some problems with the second book, I do intend to give it a second chance! And then I plan to continue with the rest of the books.

The concept is a BRILLIANT one! So I do think you'll enjoy these novels, especially if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan!!

    1. Hi, Steph!

Yeah, I can't, either!! Some of these YA authors can REALLY hustle!! Lol. I feel like the first book just came out, too!! :)

I LOVED the first book! The second one, not so much, but, as I stated in this post, I AM planning to give it a second chance! And I also own the third one. So I'm getting the fourth as soon as it releases! Yup!!

  4. This is an interesting concept. I read your commentary on the other books. Despite this being based on the original stories it sounds very original. I have actually been thinking of reading some of the original Sherlock Holmes stories. I would probably want to do so before starting this series.

    1. Hi, Brian!

It SURE is!! And that first book was just GREAT!! Cavallaro incorporated several of the iconic original S.H. stories in a very clever way! So I want to reread them, too! It's been quite a few years, since I first read them. I think I must have been around 12 when I first encountered them. Needless to say, they pulled me in right away! I ADORE Sherlock Holmes!!!!

I think it's not a bad idea for you to reread those originals before you read this series, but it's not absolutely necessary. I didn't. But, when I came across those references to the original tales, I really got "reader's nostalgia".... Hmmmm.... Methinks I've coined a new term, lol.

Okay, so we need to put on our deerstalker caps and join Holmes & Watson (the originals) in foggy London! I daresay the game's afoot, by Jove!!! :) :)

Thanks for the nice comment!! <3 :)

    1. Hi, Mary!

Well, I LOVED the first book!! The second one was a bit disappointing, but, as I stated in this post, I plan on giving it a second chance! I do own the third book, so I can move right on to it. Then I'll be ready when the fourth book is published! :)

I don't usually read the mystery genre, but anything related to Sherlock Holmes is DEFINITELY an exception!

  7. While I haven't read this series, I have been following it and I thought it would be ending at the end of the trilogy. I bet lots of people will be thrilled about this one. Hope you are having a wonderful day!

    1. Hi, Barb!

Yeah, I, too, had the impression that it was going to be a trilogy. I guess the author decided that, if people liked it so much, it was better for her to keep going! That's GREAT for us fans!! :) :)

I will DEFINITELY pick up the second book again, and see if I like it better this time around. I want to go on to the third, and then the fourth, when it's published!

Thanks for commenting!! Hope you're having a wonderful day, too!! HUGS TO YOU AND THOSE ADORABLE PUPS, AND "WOOF, WOOF" TO THEM!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

  8. Have you read Ellie Marney’s YA Every series? It’s set in Melbourne and features a boy genius, James Mycroft(as he puts it, Sherlock’s smarter brother) and his schoolfriendand eventual girlfriend Rachel Watts. It’s especially interesting as he has a web site on which he acts as a “consulting detective.” He does live with his mother, but she is nearly always out. Rachel can do first aid(the Doctor thing).

The author is a school teacher, so knows about kids!

    1. Hi, Sue!

No, I haven't read that series, but I will be SURE to check it out on Goodreads! Sounds AWESOME!! I will ALWAYS be interested in any book related to Sherlock Holmes, however indirectly!!

How nice that this author is a school teacher, too! Yes, that would help make these books more realistic in regards to how kids act and think.

Thanks for the rec!! <3 :)

  9. You have seriously now convinced me that I really need to pick up the first book in this series and read it, because I love anything where there is a direct descendant from the great Sherlock Holmes. That is so my jam, so this is a fantastic pick! :)

If you get the chance, come by my blog and check out my Can't-Wait Wednesday post.
