About the Series

When Kyra, the Moorigad dragon-shifter, unwittingly finds herself at Mystic’s Carnival, a supernatural world between realms, she believes her runaway days are finished. Amidst the carnies and never-ending magic, she finds a home of the heart – friends and belonging among a gathering of paranormal beings. However, living an uncomplicated life was never one of Kyra’s strengths.
She’s falling for her all-too-secretive best friend, Sebastian. And as she delves deeper into his mysteries, her goodwill sabotages their future and her very existence.
What did Kyra do?
Can Kyra and Sebastian find their happily-ever-after?
In this action-packed, fantasy romance about two coming-of-age would-be lovers, Kyra and Sebastian’s union and strength of character will be put to the ultimate test. The stakes? Everything and everyone that ever mattered to them.

Trimming Your Manuscript Fat

Cutting your little darlings is never easy, but ultimately each chapter and paragraph must serve a purpose. If a scene doesn’t propel the story forward, deepen the plot, further develop a character, and keep the reader engaged, then it should be reevaluated, or cut away entirely. It sounds like a daunting task and, I’m not going to lie, it can be. But the more seasoned a writer you become, the easier it will be for you to spot the problem areas and adjust accordingly.

When everything in your manuscript reads like pure genius and no flaw can be found, chances are you’re too close to the work. Determining if a scene meets the above requirements becomes increasingly more difficult. That’s when it’s time to take a break. Maybe a day, possibly a week, could be longer. I recommend a good three months. Step away, let the story marinate, and gain some distance from story-love. Upon your return (with a fresh perspective), read through your manuscript as a reader, not the writer, and pay attention to all the points and clues dropped within your story.

·  Does everything lead where it should?

·  Does each plot get properly closed?

·  Were all the questions answered?

·  What, if anything, was left dangling?

·  Did the story ever sag?

· At any point, were you tempted to skim, skip, or even stop reading?

Once you’ve answered all these questions, you have your target areas and the next phase begins. Time to decide the best course of action for each individual problem: cut or rescript. Work your magic: cut, revise, and move forward, then do another read through. Repeat until your manuscript is lean and clean.

Now, armed with your editing know-how, go out and create your masterpiece! It's waiting for you.

Thanks so much for having me here today. It's been an honor and a privilege.

Live in reality. Play on the other side.

Debra Kristi is a paranormal and fantasy writer. She lives in Southern California with her husband, two children, three schizophrenic cats. She's a full-time kid chaser, video game maker's wife, and muse-prompted writer. Unlike the characters she often writes, she is no immortal, and her only super power is letting the dishes and laundry pile up. When not writing, Debra is out creating priceless memories with her family, geeking out to science fiction and fantasy television, and tossing around movie quotes.

"She writes because the dead girl told her to."
