My Answer

I have met authors through all of the ways  mentioned above; the 'something else' has been through blog tours that I've hosted. Authors have dropped by to thank me for hosting them, and have also commented on how much they liked my post. Not all authors do this, unfortunately, but the real nice ones do.

I have interviewed quite a few authors as part of blog tours (check out my "Author Interviews" tab, beneath my header).   I have always tried to ask interesting questions, and have gotten very interesting answers from several authors.

Usually, I'll 'meet' an author that's new to me through a blog tour. If they don't comment on my tour post, though, there will probably be no further contact between us. If they do comment, then I will follow their blog and Twitter page, as well as like their Facebook page.

I rarely meet authors in person, but it has happened. For instance, in July, 2011, I met YA authors Maggie Stiefvater   and Meg Cabot at a book signing in South Florida. It was at a bookstore named "Books and Books". I bought Forever from Maggie, and Abandon from Meg, and had pictures taken with both of them!  You can access that post HERE.

At the 2013 Miami International Book Fair, I met YA authors  Kami Garcia, Alex Flinn, and Holly Black, got pics taken with all three, and also bought  signed copies of Beautiful Redemption and Towering.  You can access that post HERE.

Also, at the 2015 Miami Book Fair, I met  YA author Melissa de la Cruz, who had just released her new title, The Isle of the Lost. I bought the signed book from her. You can access that post HERE.

I hope to be able to continue meeting authors in any way possible, as I continue my adventures in Book Land!!

  5. Great post as always Maria.

Book Blogging and other social media outlets are great for connecting with writers. Folks who lived in an earlier era did not get this chance.

It is really rude for authors not to comment on a Blog Tour Posts. In addition, one would think that these folks would by doing everything possible to promote their work.

I guess we have both seen some really bad behavior on social media.

    1. Hey, Brian!

      Thanks for your kind words!

Yes, blogging and social media are great places to meet authors!

I agree - if a blogger is helping promote an author's book through a blog tour, they should at least thank the blogger. But some authors are very nice. I have met some who have thanked me.

There's all kinds in social media. I know what you mean!

Thanks for the great comment!! : )

  6. That's so awesome that you have photos of you with all those authors. I never think to take photos. I'm always so nervous to even speak to them in person. LOL

Regarding book tours, I'm always pleased when an author comments on a blog tour post (unless I have mixed feelings about the book and then I'd rather they didn't even read my review), but I don't expect it. As a result, it really doesn't bother me too much.

    1. Hi, Wendy!

I didn't use to make sure I got pictures taken when meeting authors. Then I started to! Of course, they make nice mwmories. All of the above pictures are from local book events I was lucky enough to attend!

Regarding blog tours, it really doesn't bother me when an author doesn't comment on a promo post. If I've written a five-star review, then it DOES bother me. Positive reviews sell books. But not every author fails to acknowledge a positive review. Some of them are indeed very nice, and do so.

      Thanks for commenting!! : )
