For some time now, I have been debating the idea in my head -- should I or shouldn't I change my blog's name? It was not an easy decision for me to make, since I am definitely an ardent Twilight fan. However, I had to weigh that against the very obvious fact that my blog has just not been attracting as many followers as I would like to have... I kept asking myself why, and avoiding what was plainly staring me in the face: the name "Twilight and Other Dreams" made it look like the content was primarily about The Twilight Saga, which it really wasn't. People browsing or Googling on the Internet would see the name, assume it was simply one more fan site, and move on. Besides, any author visiting the blog to check on a review of their book might just ever so slightly resent being lumped into the "Other Dreams" category. I never thought of it that way before, so that means I've had a sort of little epiphany here...
So I have finally taken the plunge! Changing the name was not all that bad, really, when I finally decided to do it. Changing the blog's URL was another matter. I was afraid of losing all of my posts, the widgets in my sidebar, and, worst of all, my followers! Thankfully, that didn't happen. However, I did lose my entire blog roll! So I had to temporarily go back and install the old URL, so that I could "rescue" the entire list, which I then copied and pasted into Word, then saved, so that I can little by little put all those wonderful, lovely blogs back on my list!
Well, I sure hope that things will be different from now on! My content won't change, except, of course, that I will not have as much Twilight-related content as I did in the recent past. This will actually free me; I won't feel compelled to post about Twilight just to do justice to the blog's name.
In choosing a new name, I knew I wanted to keep the word "dream" as part of it somehow. So I adapted this one from the title of one of my Phantom of the Opera fan fiction stories, "A Night's Dream of Music". That name, in turn, was inspired by the title of a great English literary classic.
Feel free to comment and let me know what you all think! Meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy the blog!

ReplyDeleteYou're not the first ardent Twilight fan I know to rebrand her blog in this way. (Interestingly, she also used the word "Dream" in her new name!) I can see why it was necessary, to attract a wider audience, but I can be smug in the knowledge that I started reading your blog a week before the change. ;-)
As I told you on Book Blogs, I really like the new header image. It definitely changes the whole angle of your blog! =D
