(Saga of the Skolian Empire  #1)
Trade Paperback, 384 pages
Tor Books
May 15, 1996
Science Fiction

Why do I love this cover?

Everything about this image is fascinating!  The color blue is all over the composition, in shining streams of light of an otherworldly origin.  These are coming from the strange globe in the center of the cover.   This scene is set in space, and the globe probably represents an alien space docking station, which could be the reason all the spaceships are darting around it.  Or perhaps it's some sort of alien outpost, undergoing attack by an invading space fleet.

All the exciting action reminds me of Star Trek and Star Wars!  There are two rival empires involved here, and that means there's war afoot...

The spaceships themselves are obviously built for speed and easy maneuverability.  The way they're placed creates very dynamic movement, thus creating the illusion that they are, in fact, slicing through space.

The fonts used for this cover are very stark and plain, which is perfect, since the viewer's eyes are thus focused on the globe and the spaceships.

Since this book is not in my collection (yet!), I have no way of knowing who the cover artist and/or designer is.  However, there's no doubt that person is very talented!

4.)  Be sure to find out next week's
question when you visit Bill's blog!

My Answer

No worries, I won't mention The Twilight Saga again!  (Although I'd love to....)  Here's a chance for me to mention a trilogy that I absolutely love, and it's none other than The Lord of the Rings!!

I have several editions of these books, too, including the ones illustrated by Alan Lee!!!   I also have other editions I treasure, whether paperback or hardcover.  I love them all!!

From the first moment I read about the indomitable hobbit, Frodo Baggins, I was totally enthralled....I love him, his uncle Bilbo -- who found the ring that must be destroyed -- Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Merry, Pippin....I love the land these fascinating beings roam, too....Middle-Earth, where I wish I lived....

Of course, I love the Harry Potter series just as fiercely!  Since I haven't mentioned LOTR yet, though, I think it's only fair I do so in this week's post!

Here's a picture of the Alan Lee edition,
which is my absolute fave!!

(available from time to time)

Other editions I own:

Trade Paperback, 310 pages
WiDo Publishing
April 16, 2013
Fantasy, Paranormal Romance,
Young Adult Fiction

Why do I love this cover?

This incredibly gorgeous image brings together two of my favorite things in life -- horses, and the color blue!

I came across this beautiful cover while visiting one of my favorite blogs -- Vonnie's Reading Corner!  Vonnie published a post on this book, as a participant on two Friday hops: The Friday 56, and Book Beginnings on Fridays.  I fell in love with this cover right away, and knew that I had to feature it!

This cover is obviously made up of composite images, and yet, all of them go together quite well.  The three stallions in the middle of the cover seem to be bursting from the sea; there are some hints of sea foam at their feet, although the landscape behind them seems to be a combination of murky forest and stormy farmland.

The bottom half of the cover shows a snake, on the lower left-hand side, slithering over some sort of weird metal ornament, while the lower right-hand side shows what I think might be a section of coral reef.
