Marriages of convenience are so…inconvenient.
Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a big-time musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway—until he admits his student visa has expired and he’s in the country illegally.
Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realise that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

Why I can't wait for this one!
Yes, I know that marriage-of-convenience plots are considered to be -- and actually are -- cliché, but heck, I LOVE them anyway! Lol. I don't know what it is about these plots, but they get me every single time! I can't help it.....
Besides, this particular book seems to be very relevant right now, with all the controversy over immigration going on.
Last but definitely NOT least, this story takes place in New York City!! And here I am, longing to see a Broadway show.....sigh.... My hubby is a New Yorker, so maybe that's part of the appeal, too! Lol.

Though probably not my cup of tea, The book looks like it exudes New York City in a fun way.
ReplyDeleteThere are indeed so many stories about marriages of conveniences. However, I think that the concept is forever interesting as it opens the door to all sorts of relationships and allows authors to explore them in unique ways.
Hi, Brian!
DeleteIt sure does! I would love to be up there at this time of year! I have always wanted to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, plus the setting up and lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.
I agree -- this concept does indeed remain interesting even though it's so common in romance novels. As you say, it lends itself to many types of explorations that can certainly be original.
In short, this sounds like a GREAT story! I can even see it being made into a movie.
Thanks for the super nice comment!! Hope you're enjoying your Saturday!! <3 :)
Oooh! This sounds like a cute book! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!

I doubt I'll read this one but I have to admit, it does sound like a lot of fun. I mainly read contemporaries around Christmas so you might just see some reviewed next month. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving planned and the boxer boys will definitely be eating some turkey. Plus Cass turns 4 the day before so they'll have doggy cupcakes too!
