Six months after the end of Wintersong, Liesl is working toward furthering both her brother’s and her own musical careers. Although she is determined to look forward and not behind, life in the world above is not as easy as Liesl had hoped. Her younger brother Josef is cold, distant, and withdrawn, while Liesl can’t forget the austere young man she left beneath the earth, and the music he inspired in her.

When troubling signs arise that the barrier between worlds is crumbling, Liesl must return to the Underground to unravel the mystery of life, death, and the Goblin King—who he was, who he is, and who he will be. What will it take to break the old laws once and for all? What is the true meaning of sacrifice when the fate of the world—or the ones Liesl loves—is in her hands?

Why I can't wait for this one!

This cover is just as GORGEOUS as the one for Wintersong! So that's actually what first caught my attention, of course. And then I read the plot synopsis, and I felt that this second book will be just as great as the first! Not that I've read the first book, lol. But any book dealing with music will be on my TBR, because I LOVE music -- all kinds, too, except for country and hip hop. (Sorry to fans of these music genres.) Besides, the whole thing with the Goblin King who lives in the Underground reminds me of one of my favorite Greek myths -- the myth of Persephone. So I DEFINITELY need this one in my greedy little bookworm's hands!! Lol.

Here's the first book in this duology!

S. Jae-Jones, called JJ, is an artist, an adrenaline junkie, and the NYT bestselling author of Wintersong.

Born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, she lived in New York City for ten years before relocating down to Dixie, where she is comfortably growing fat on grits and barbecue. When not writing, she can be found rock-climbing, skydiving, taking photographs, drawing pictures, and dragging her dog on ridiculously long hikes.

  1. I agree that this is great cover. I think that it would be a good choice for you to analyze in a Shelf Candy Saturday post.

I wonder if the music that is obvious an important part to these books has any connection with magic. There is a fantasy series by Alan Dean Foster called Spellsinger that incorporated music and magic.

    1. Hi, Brian!

Yeah, this cover is DEFINITELY a candidate for "Shelf Candy Saturday"!! I think I'll wait a while before posting it, though. I don't want to post a cover twice over a very short period of time. I remember posting the cover of the first book, so I think this one deserves its turn!

BTW, I sometimes feel conflicted about where to post a book -- "Can't Wait Wednesday", or "Shelf Candy Saturday". Many upcoming books have AMAZING covers!!

I would think that yes, the music in the book has some connection to magic. Even in so-called "real life", music frequently has a magical feeling. Music can transport listeners to a different dimension. Sometimes that dimension is one of enchanting fantasy, while at other times, it's one of spiritual bliss. And sometimes it's just hard-driving enjoyment, as with rock music.

I will have to check out that fantasy series!! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!!

Thanks for such a FAB comment!! <3 :)

  3. I didn't think the cover of the first one could be outdone but man, it has. I love this one so much more. I own the first one and will end up getting this one as well - maybe I should find time to read them. Too bad we can't purchase reading time along with books. I listen to some hip-hop but can't do country at all.

The boys wanna thank you for stopping by The Farm and always leaving such nice comments. WOOF WOOF!

    1. Hi, Barb!

I do love both covers, but I think I have a slight preference for the second. I'm planning to feature it in a future "Shelf Candy Saturday" post, since I have already featured the first one.

I own the first book, too, so maybe I will read them back to back when this one releases! :)

Yeah, country music is just "cringe-worthy" for me. I do like some Glen Campbell songs, though, such as "Wichita Lineman" and a few others. But I think that's because his songs were a combination of country and pop. I do miss him..... He was a great person as well as a great singer!

Tell the boys that they're very welcome!! And I LOVE to leave nice comments for nice bloggers like YOU!!

Thanks for this lovely comment!! HUGS TO YOU & THE BOYS!! WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :D :D :D

  5. The cover is breathtaking. I admit my first thought when music is paired with the Goblin King, I think of Labyrinth. It's one of my daughter's favorite movies. This does sound interesting. I hope you get to read both the first and this book, Maria!
