Here's my choice for this week!
Spellslinger
Sebastien de Castell
Hardcover, 400 pages
Hot Key Books
May 4, 2017
Fantasy, Young Adult Fiction
"There are three things
that earn you a man’s name among the Jan’Tep. The first is to
demonstrate the strength to defend your family. The second is to prove
you can perform the high magic that defines our people. The third is
surviving your fourteenth year. I was a few weeks shy of my birthday
when I learned that I wouldn’t be doing any of those things."
Kellen’s dreams of becoming a powerful mage like his father are shattered after a failed magical duel results in the complete loss of his abilities. When other young mages begin to suffer the same fate, Kellen is accused of unleashing a magical curse on his own clan and is forced to flee with the help of a mysterious foreign woman who may in fact be a spy in service to an enemy country. Unsure of who to trust, Kellen struggles to learn how to survive in a dangerous world without his magic even as he seeks out the true source of the curse. But when Kellen uncovers a conspiracy hatched by members of his own clan seeking to take power, he races back to his city in a desperate bid to outwit the mages arrayed against him before they can destroy his family.
Spellslinger is heroic fantasy with a western flavour.

Why I can't wait for this one!
This novel, as well as its author, are entirely new to me. I was immediately pulled in by the GORGEOUS cover, and then, when I read the synopsis, I KNEW I had to feature it on "Can't Wait Wednesday" today! I'm SO intrigued!! Besides, the author is a...well, ahem....GORGEOUS Pierce Brosnan lookalike! Plus, he's brandishing a sword in the picture below. Aaaah, a swashbuckler! End of story!!
What do you think of my choice?

Here's my WoW
Amy @ A Magical World Of Words
Hi, Amy!
DeleteYeah!! On top of the fact that he looks a LOT like Pierce Brosnan, he also looks like a swashbuckling Musketeer! Lol.
I'm just like you -- I ADORE fantasy!! You're very welcome for the introduction to this book!
Thanks for visiting and commenting!! HUGS BACK!!! <3 <3 :) :)
Hey Maria.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds interesting. The idea of the protagonist losing his magical abilities sounds original and interesting. Also the infusion of "Western" themes seem different.
That is an awesome cover.
Have a great week!
Hey, Brian!
DeleteOh, it DEFINITELY sounds interesting! And I agree -- the inclusion of a Western theme adds to the story, as well!
I LOVE this cover!! You know, I frequently feel conflicted about featuring certain books on this meme, instead of "Shelf Candy Saturday", because of the AWESOME covers on some of them! Haha!
Hope you have a great week, too! Thanks for commenting!! :) :) :)
Ooh I like your choice and I see what you mean with Pierce Brosman.....! Hope you get to read it soon!
ReplyDeleteHi, Mareli!
DeleteGlad you like my choice! And I see you've noticed that this author is, indeed, a Pierce Brosnan lookalike! Brosnan happens to be my favorite actor to play James Bond, by the way. I can't stand the guy who plays Bond now!
I hope to get to read this one when it releases!
Thanks for visiting and commenting!! <3 :)
I already have this on my wishlist but it's great one to feature this week. I didn't know anything about the author so thanks for adding a note on him. He sounds like such a unique person!
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb!
DeleteI'm happy to hear that you like this one, too!!
You know, I've decided to add an author bio to my CWW posts from now on. I guess when I saw this writer's pic, that was a VERY easy decision to make! Lol. He certainly does sound like a very unique person!
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!! <3 <3 :) :)
