My Thoughts About This Cover

This is another beautiful creation by one of my favorite book cover artists! Yes, it's the inimitable Kinuko Craft, creator of wondrous, enchanting, fantasy worlds!

This cover is indeed totally enchanting. Jena, the novel's protagonist, is surrounded by all the fairies of the Other Kingdom, as they dance and twirl around her. She herself seems to be blending into her surroundings, becoming fairy-like herself. Indeed, land and sea join together, at the bottom of the cover.

Jena has a rather wistful look on her face, as she absently plays with what looks to be a baby dragon's tail. It seems as though she's not sure that everything is all right in the  Other Kingdom.....

The colors in this cover are vivid, jewel-like, which contributes to  the overall surreal atmosphere. In  fact, it all looks very dream-like, and I am therefore reminded of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

I love that Craft  infuses her work with a very feminine look, but yet, it has a boldness to it that makes a very lasting impression on the viewer. Her style is certainly unmistakable!

One thing I would have changed about this cover is the font used for the title.  I would have wanted it to be more ornate, more in keeping with the lyrical feel of this luscious cover. That classical-looking font, while not distracting the eye from the fantasy scene, still doesn't go with that fantasy feel.

Well.....so now, of course, I WANT this book, too....what is an insatiable bookworm to do?

  2. I love this cover. There is so much going on within the picture that one can spend a lot of time just looking and thinking about it.

As you point out there is a lot of mixing of sea and land themes. I would guess that is also a theme related to the plot of the book.

    1. Hey, Brian!

Oh, this is a STUNNING cover!! It's just wonderful how very talented Kinuko Craft is!! I LOVE all of her covers that I've seen so far!

You can definitely get lost in this particular cover; there's just so much beauty in it......I know I could stare at it for hours! And it's interesting how the artist brings in the sea to blend with the land. I think you're right in stating that this has something to do with the book's plot.

Thanks for the great comment!! : ).

This meme originated with another blogger -- Stephanie @ Five Alarm Book Reviews -- but sadly, she decided to stop blogging, and passed this lovely meme on to me. I LOVE analyzing book covers, especially beautiful ones! It helps that I was an Art Major in College, too!
