Why do I love this cover?

When I first saw this image, I knew I had to feature it!  The color combination is a stunning and very effective one -- light blue with purple. There's also a lovely strip of rippling, aqua-colored water at the bottom of the cover.

The bold, simple design consists of one main circle that overlaps many pulsating, concentric circles radiating over the city. The top circle shows a partial view of planet Earth as seen from outer space. It hangs in the sky as if it were an alien planet, looming over the silhouetted, sinister-looking dark city below. In the sky, the concentric circles form a pattern of either radiation or  waves of radio signals. The theme is obviously one of alien communication, and/or intervention in human affairs, which is indeed what the plot is all about.

The title is a stroke of genius! The letters are very boldly placed in the middle of the image, and I like the fact that lower-case letters are mixed with capital letters in the word "earth", which emphasizes that word.

This is a very bold, graphic image that is entirely compelling! It's simple, yet very effective, and it draws the eye in, even creating a hypnotic fascination in the viewer.

When I started my Google search for the cover artist, I came across a website, YA Books Central, where I found a cover reveal post for this book. The author, Megan Crewe, states that the cover was created by the staff at Skyscape. By the way, the name "Skyscape" is a perfect one for the publisher of this novel!

For those who are interested, I will give the link to the post mentioned above, since Crewe is currently holding a giveaway for this novel! There will be a total of TWENTY winners -- ten from the US, and ten from Canada! Each will get a finished copy of the book!! So of course I'm entering!! I'm SO excited at the possibility of winning this beautiful book!!!!

You can access the post and the awesome giveaway HERE!!

  2. I really like this one. The "Communication" message comes through loud and clear.

Until I read what you write I was not thinking that the city looked ominous. I was thinking that it looked quite and asleep. I think about early morning when light is creeping in just before dawn.

    1. Hey, Brian!

      Yeah, it sure does!

The city does look a little sinister to me, although your interpretation seems just as plausible. Maybe all the residents are fast asleep, blissfully unaware of what's going to come down upon them....oh,, that gives me the shivers!

Anyway, I think the art staff at Skyscape did a FABULOUS job on this cover! Glad you like it, too!

Thanks for the great comment!! : )
