"How My Faith Motivated Me
To Write Fiction"
Dana K. Ray

Stories have played like movies in my head since as far back as I can remember. I used to think something was wrong with me because they are so vivid in my mind. I always dreamed of being a published author but it wasn’t until 1994 that I heard God tell me to write the stories down and He would bless them. I knew nothing about the craft, point of view or editing. All I knew was God had called me to do it, so I did it.

Those first few years I penned around seven different novels. I studied books about writing, joined a critique group and began extensive edits.

As the years passed, every time I felt I had heard God wrong and questioned my calling to be a writer, God would provide some sort of encouragement. During that time, I sold two fiction short stories and started an email devotional which turned into my first blog. I continued to pray. I knew God’s timing was perfect although trusting that timing is the hardest part. I waited, prayed, and waited longer.

Last year I felt God saying now is the time so I made a promise to Him. If I didn’t have a publishing contract or signed with an agent by the end of the year, I would self-publish.

In September, I subbed A Second Chance to two publishers. Before I knew it, I had both interested and was offered a contract.

I believe God will do what He says He will do. If I didn’t believe that, I would’ve given up on writing a long time ago. After years of waiting, patience, prayer, doubt, and discouragement, He has blessed not just A Second Chance, but I signed my second novel for publication. Absolution, the first in the Luciano series, will be released in July of 2017.

Dana K. Ray has been writing gutsy, true to life stories since she became a teenager. She and her husband reside in the Midwest with their four children and four dogs. A Second Chance is her first published novel. Absolution, her second novel, will be released in July of 2017. It’s the first in the Luciano series.
