Here's my choice for this week!
All The Crooked Saints
Maggie Stiefvater
Hardcover, 320 pages
Scholastic Press
October 10, 2017
Fantasy, Paranormal Fiction,
Young Adult Fiction
Here is a thing everyone wants:
A miracle.
Here is a thing everyone fears:
What it takes to get one.
Any visitor to Bicho Raro, Colorado is likely to find a landscape of dark saints, forbidden love, scientific dreams, miracle-mad owls, estranged affections, one or two orphans, and a sky full of watchful desert stars.
At the heart of this place you will find the Soria family, who all have the ability to perform unusual miracles. And at the heart of this family are three cousins longing to change its future: Beatriz, the girl without feelings, who wants only to be free to examine her thoughts; Daniel, the Saint of Bicho Raro, who performs miracles for everyone but himself; and Joaquin, who spends his nights running a renegade radio station under the name Diablo Diablo.
They are all looking for a miracle. But the miracles of Bicho Raro are never quite what you expect.
Maggie Stiefvater has been called “a master storyteller” by USA Today and “wildly imaginative” by Entertainment Weekly. Now, with All the Crooked Saints, she gives us the extraordinary story of an extraordinary family, a masterful tale of love, fear, darkness, and redemption. In a world of etiquette and polite masks, no one is who they seem to be.

Why I can't wait for this one!
I have several Stiefvater books sitting on my shelves, and have not yet read them....but I just couldn't resist featuring this one! Although I'm not Mexican, or even Mexican-American, I do appreciate and love Mexican folklore. This book sure looks like it will be a FASCINATING read, and heck, it's by MAGGIE STIEFVATER, who has a GREAT reputation in YA Fiction.!! 'Nuff said!! And I'm getting to those books on my shelves, which this one will soon join!! (BTW, the name "Bicho Raro" means "Strange Bug" in Spanish. )
What do you think of my choice?

come check out your pick(s)!
come check out your pick(s)!
I agree, this sounds so interesting. The plot description sounds fascinating. I do not think that I ever heard of a book that incorporates Mexican folklore in its plot. I would like to know more about the subject.
ReplyDeleteIf you read this I would love to know what you thought about it Maria.
Hi, Brian!
DeleteGlad you like this one, too!! it does look fascinating, plus Stiefvater has already penned some GREAT books (that I need to get to, lol)!!
You can be SURE I'm getting this one!!
Thanks for the nice comment!! <3 :)
I haven't been able to get into Maggie Stiefvater's books so far. But I do agree that this one sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteHi, Stephanie!
DeleteYeah, me too!! I have the whole Wolves of Mercy Falls series, plus a couple of the Raven Cycle books, and I NEED to read them!
Now I'm adding this book, which I think I might read first, lol.
Thanks for commenting!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
Every time I read the bio on Maggie I chuckle. I love that she named her Camaro and she sounds like such a unique person. I can't wait to get my hands on this one too and am really curious about "Diablo Diablo."
ReplyDeleteThe boys said to tell you hello (WOOF) and to mention that once again, they took over Mom's Can't Wait Wednesday post this week - whatever will I do with them?
Hey, Barb!
DeleteYou know, a couple of years ago, I actually met Maggie, if only briefly. She came down to Miami for a book presentation, along with two other YA authors -- Meg Cabot and Libba Bray. Maggie is indeed a unique person! She was the most bubbly of the three authors, and I GREATLY enjoyed the presentation and book signing!
Yeah, I'm curious about "Diablo, Diablo" myself!
I have already visited your CWW post. The boys are SO ADORABLE, and their picks GREAT, as usual!! You HAVE to let them continue featuring books whenever they want!!
LOVE you guys!! BIG HUGS FOR YOU ALL!! Also, WOOF, WOOF to the boys!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I want to read this one, too. I haven't read The Wolves of Mercy Falls series yet, but I did read The Raven Boys. Hope you enjoy it!

Hi, Darlene!
DeleteOh, you've read "The Raven Boys"? Well, you're ahead of me, then! I have that book, plus the entire Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and haven't read any of them.... :(
I might start with "All The Crooked Saints", though! Lol.
Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)
I haven't read anything by Maggie Stiefvater yet either--keyword being yet. She's been on my list of authors I want to try for quite a while now. This sounds really good! Is it a stand alone or one of her series books? It sounds like a stand alone. Thanks for sharing, Maria! I hope you are enjoying your week.
ReplyDeleteHi, Wendy!
DeleteYeah, I haven't read any of her books, either.... Would you believe I have entire Wolves of Mercy Falls series sitting on my shelves? And I also have a couple of the Raven Cycle books. "So many books, so little time", as Frank Zappa once said!!
It looks like "All The Crooked Saints" is a stand alone. At least, Goodreads hasn't listed it as the first of a series. But sometimes stand alones end up being the first of a series. You never know.
You're very welcome for the sharing!! I hope you're enjoying your week, too!! And I certainly hope that Mouse is enjoying the new school year!!
Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS TO YOU AND MOUSE!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I adore Stiefvater and I'm really looking forward to this as well. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteHi, Tammy!
DeleteOh, you've read Stiefvater before? Well, you're ahead of me then, lol. I have a couple of the Raven books, plus the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and have yet to read them.... Lol. But who knows? Maybe I'll start with "All The Crooked Saints" instead! Lol.
Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)

Stiefvater has such a special style. It took me a little bit, but I totally grew to appreciate her storytelling. I loved the Raven Cycle and am also really excited about this one.

Maria I am SO SORRY I'm only getting to visit this now!! I feel so immensely guilty and I'm so, so sorry!!
ReplyDeleteWell. I'm here now! Whew.
Amazing choice this week! Can you believe I've never read a Maggie S book?! It's shocking, I know. But I've heard awesome things about them and I'm especially dying to start The Raven Boys series sometime soon.
This looks so good too. I love complicated family dynamics, and these characters sound fascinating.
Thanks for sharing!!! <3 <3 :) :) :) HUGS!! Sorry again for the late visit!
Here's my WoW
Amy @ A Magical World Of Words
Hi, Amy!
DeleteNo worries! I know how busy one can get with all the blogging and commenting, not to mention LIFE interrupting! Lol. I know the feeling, because sometimes I myself fall behind in commenting!! But it's SO NICE of you to apologize! You're one of the SWEETEST bloggers I know!
About not reading Maggie's books before, no worries there, either, because you sure are NOT the only one! I haven't read any of them, either, lol!! And I own The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, PLUS two books from The Raven Cycle series!!! :) :) :)
I'm SURE that ANYTHING by Maggie will be AWESOME!! Although I haven't read any of her books (yet!), I know she has a great reputation, so this one will be no exception! Yeah that you're excited about this one, too!!!!
You're very welcome for the sharing!! Again, no problem at all with the late comment back!!
HUGS RIGHT BACK AT YA!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
She's an author I haven't read yet either. This sounds incredibly intriguing, especially Beatriz.
