Here's a sneak peek at
this exciting YA novel!!
Jessie held out a hand to Sammie. "Come forward, child," he ordered.
Obediently, Sammie slid off the stool, still holding her guitar. As she approached Jessie, Sammie's gaze skimmed over the crowd. Allie, are you out there?
Huh? Startled by the clarity of her voice inside my head, I almost stood and waved my arms. Had I imagined hearing Sammie's words? One way to find out.
I'm here, Sammie. Last row. To your left. I thought the words and willed them to reach her. When her gaze swung to the back row, she smiled. Glad you're here. A shiver slithered from the base of my neck down to the bottom of my spine. Before I had a chance to analyze what just happened, Jessie started his rant. He pointed out the pentagram tattoo on Sammie's neck. "Ladies and gentlemen, do you understand the significance of this tattoo?"
I heard people mutter "Black magic", and "Satanism". The color rose in Sammie's face. My cheeks warmed up in response. A tsunami of emotions flooded my mind. Embarrassment. Simmering rage. Frustration. Shame. I clenched my fists and pressed my lips together to keep from crying out. How could this be happening? How could I feel what Sammie was feeling? Hear her thoughts? How could she hear mine? Above all, what did it mean?
Tom put his hand on my shoulder. "It's okay, Allie. I understand. You've been under a lot of stress."
"No!" I screamed again. A firestorm of energy zinged through my body and Ackerman's file folder exploded. A blizzard of papers shot upward, fluttering and swooping like frantic birds looking for an escape route. Ackerman tried to snatch them out of the air, leaping and darting around the room.
Frantic to get away from Chris Revelle, I whirled toward the door. My pent-up fury must have triggered a power surge, because as my gaze swept over the book-lined walls, heavy volumes shot from the shelves like heat-seeking missiles. With a shout of alarm, Revelle dived under the desk. Ackerman screamed and hit the floor, her arms covering her head. Tom and I both ran for the door.
I screamed, "Come on, Sammie, we're getting out of here!"
Tom and I reached the door at the same time. I gave him another hard shove. He staggered sideways, directly into the path of a massive leather-bound book that slammed into the back of his head and toppled him like a bowling pin. His glasses sailed off his nose and joined the rest of the flying objects. Yes! Score one for Allie!

I really like the fact that the some of the new books in this genre are reviving concepts of mythical creatures and personages. I see that the spelling is different but I wonder how much the faerys in this series resemble fairies of myth.
ReplyDeleteHey, Brian!
ReplyDeleteYes, the spelling is different, but I've looked it up, and it's an alternative version of the name. As far as I can tell, the faeries in this book are pretty much like the traditional ones, although I couldn't say for sure, since I haven't read the book.
Thanks for the comment!! :)
