My Thoughts About This Cover
This is a rather unique, and absolutely STUNNING cover! I was immediately drawn to it!
The design is simple, yet complex, because of that leafy background, which interacts so well with the graceful, ornamental, golden ironwork. This ironwork also frames the title very effectively and beautifully.
I have always loved circles, so this cover also appeals to me because of the circular design. All of that circular, swirly movement also adds to the mystery of that background. Just what is behind all of those leafy plants?
The colors on this cover are so visually powerful, too -- the dark green and occasional splashes of red and yellow, together with the golden ironwork, all come together to make one really GORGEOUS image!
As for the font used for the title and author's name, it has an obvious Art Deco influence, which adds tremendously to this cover's visual appeal. I LOVE that subtle alteration of the letter "V" in the title, too.
The brilliant creator of this dynamic cover is Kerri Resnick, Associate Art Director at St. Martin's Press. Resnick has a Bachelor of Arts from Marist College, located in the state of New York. She previously worked for the New York Musical Theater Festival, True North, and Serino Coyne, Inc. She's based in New York City.

This really is a striking cover. I agree with everything that you said. I find that the small red flowers add such a contrast to the picture. Though they only make up a small percentage of the whole, they add so much life to the picture.
ReplyDeleteI also find the overall effect of the cover is restraint and maybe a little bit of mystery. It makes me want to read this book.
Hi, Brian!
DeleteOh, it was INSTANT LOVE the minute I saw it!! :)
Those small touches of red and yellow definitely make a difference! They are just PERFECT!
Glad you agree with everything I've said about this cover! :)
You're right about the restraint and the mystery. I've been asking myself just what IS behind all those leafy plants.
You bet I want to read this book, too!!
Thanks for the nice comment!! <3 :)
I haven't yet enjoyed a book by this author but I honestly would buy this book just for the cover. It's so fricking beautiful! *grabby hands*
ReplyDeleteHi, Steph!
DeleteI thought this author was new to me, but, when I looked her up on Goodreads, it turns out she's also the bestselling author of "The Star-Touched Queen", which has over SEVENTEEN THOUSAND reviews on GR!!! WOWZA!!!
And yeah, this cover.... I have "grabby hands", too!! Lol.
Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
When I saw this cover, I thought it was one of the prettiest I've seen in a long time. The word "wolves" also caught my attention - imagine that :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb!
DeleteOh, this is DEFINITELY a STUNNING cover!! And, as I mentioned to Stephanie above, this is the same author that wrote "The Star-Touched Queen"!! Well, I've already added this book to my Goodreads shelves, of course! And of course I LOVE wolves, too!! (Jacob Black.....sigh....)
Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS TO YOU AND THOSE LOVABLE PUPS, PLUS "WOOF, WOOF" TO THEM!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
It is a beautiful cover - but she generally does have lovely covers, doesn't she? And I love her writing:)). Thank you for choosing such a stunning cover, Maria - and drawing my attention to one of her books that I haven't yet tracked down. Have a lovely week.x
