Here's my choice for this week!
Unearthed
(Unearthed, Book 1)
Annie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
Hardcover, 336 pages
Disney-Hyperion
January 9, 2018
Romance, Science Fiction,
Young Adult Fiction
When Earth intercepts a
message from a long-extinct alien race, it seems like the solution the
planet has been waiting for. The Undying's advanced technology has the
potential to undo environmental damage and turn lives around, and Gaia,
their former home planet, is a treasure trove waiting to be uncovered.
For Jules Addison and his fellow scholars, the discovery of an alien culture offers unprecedented opportunity for study... as long as scavengers like Amelia Radcliffe don't loot everything first. Mia and Jules' different reasons for smuggling themselves onto Gaia put them immediately at odds, but after escaping a dangerous confrontation with other scavvers, they form a fragile alliance.
In order to penetrate the Undying temple and reach the tech and information hidden within, the two must decode the ancient race's secrets and survive their traps. But the more they learn about the Undying, the more their presence in the temple seems to be part of a grand design that could spell the end of the human race...

Why I can't wait for this one!
This sure looks like AWESOME science fiction!! I LOVE the whole premise of the book, as well as the fact that there's obviously some romance going on, although perhaps not right away.
The thing about ancient alien civilizations is DEFINITELY fascinating! Heck, I'd like to go along with these characters in their exploration of that mysterious temple!!

This sounds like it might be very good. Exploring extinct alien civilizations is an old idea in science fiction. Yet the concept still has so much potential, it seems like the possibilities that writers have limitless. The book also sounds like it might be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteHi, Brian!
DeleteOh, DEFINITELY! I know this plot idea has been used before, but there are other common SF themes, such as time travel. So I agree with you that this concept does indeed have a LOT of potential. In the hands of a skilled writer, it can definitely make for some great reading!
I also think that this story will be a lot of fun. That's always a HUGE plus, where I'm concerned! Lol.
Thanks for the nice comment!! <3 :)
I love when these two authors write together! I hope its as good as their last series!
ReplyDeleteHi, Sara!
DeleteYou know, I used to have my doubts about co-authored books, but now I know that they can be just as good as books written by only one author!
I haven't read any books by these two before. I do own "Illuminae", although I haven't read it yet. Kaufman was involved in that one, and it got great reviews!
Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)
It sounds like a really good science fiction book. Haven't read a science fiction book in a while, so adding this one to the tbr list. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Nina!
DeleteYes, it SURE does! Even though the plot idea is not a new one, I'm sure these authors have given it a great new twist.
I'm so glad you like this one, too!! :)
Thanks for commenting!! <3 :)
I don't read a lot of science fiction but I'm trying - really I am. I just saw "Her Dead and Loving Husband" when I glanced right? You know this totally looks like a horror novel cover? Ok, ADHD aside, I hope you love Unearthed and with those two authors, I'm sure you can't go wrong.
ReplyDeleteThat darn Booker T took over my post today. I can't be angry because he picks such great books! Hope you are having a wonderful week my friend!
Hi, Barb!
DeleteOh, I ADORE science fiction!! Except when it has elements of horror, of course! Lol. I've heard that these two authors are AWESOME together, so I'm hoping I'll enjoy this one!
As for the cover of "Her Dear and Loving Husband", it gave me pause when I first came across the book, a couple of years ago. (Yes, that's how long I've had it sitting on my shelves, lol.) But then I read the synopsis, and realized that this cover is TOTALLY misleading. I just finished reading the book, and, even though there are vampires in the story, there's no horror -- well, at least not of the Stephen King type. There IS the horror of the Salem Witch Trials, in which so many innocent people were accused of being witches. But this is not really a horror novel. Instead, it's a very sweet romance. I really wish another cover had been picked! Lol.
Booker T. SURE does have a knack for picking some GREAT books! I've already checked out his choices. :)
Hope you're having a wonderful week, too!! HUGS TO YOU & THE BOYS!!!! AND 'WOOF, WOOF' TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I left you a comment about the wolf story and why Cass got stuck guarding him on your reply so make sure you check it out. T is an odd dog :)
DeleteOh, COOL!! I'll go back and check it out!! Lol. Thanks for letting me know!! ARF, ARF!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
DeleteThis was also my pick for this Wednesday. I love the previous series Kaufman and Spooner wrote together, Starbound, so my expectations are really high. Hopefully we will both enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! ;)

I am such a fan of the Starbound books, I will always want to read what these two do together.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sam!

I think the mystery and adventure aspects are what appeal to me most about Unearthed. This sounds like it would be a lot of fun to read. I can see why you are drawn to it, Maria. Hopefully it will be a good one! I hope you are having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi, Wendy!
DeleteThese are the same things that appeal to me! And yes, I do think this will be a lot of fun to read.
The idea of investigating long-lost alien civilizations is not a new one, but heck, neither is time travel, which has been used in many SF novels. I think these two authors have most likely done a TERRIFIC job with the theme!
Hope you're having a great Sunday!! Thanks for commenting back!! HUGS TO YOU & MOUSE!! <3 <3 <3 :) :)
