My Answer
This question makes me feel rather wistful, because, at one time, I used to enjoy drawing, painting, and writing poetry. This was years ago, though. I really don't have the room to paint now, but I could pursue drawing again, if I wanted to. As for writing poetry, I could go back to that, as well.
I do tend to get creatively blocked, and that's because of the fear of rejection. That's also why I have barely attempted to write a novel. I am deathly afraid of getting negative reviews....
At one point, though, I did attempt some literary work, in the form of fan fiction. That was back in 2005. I first got inspired by The Phantom of the Opera (the one in the movie version, NOT the original, as written by Gaston Leroux, who is a total monster). Later on, I got inspired by my beloved Twilight Saga.
So I wrote several fan fiction stories, but most of them are unfinished. I did finish two or three of them, but that's it.
If anyone is interested in checking out these stories, you can find them HERE. I wrote them under the pen name "Angelmuse". When you click on this link, scroll down, past my profile, and you will see the stories.
As for artwork, I don't have any recent stuff. I have a few paintings hanging on my walls here in our condo. I don't know if I would feel comfortable showing them here on this blog, as they're all abstracts.
I haven't written any poetry in years, so I would have to rummage around to see if I could find some of my early stuff. ... I need to get inspired again!
For a long time now, reading and blogging have been my main interests. Perhaps I should start delving into these other interests again, too. I don't know if I have the time for that now, though.....

You should do some drawing again. As far as rejection on your writing...I don't know how people can handle it but I am glad they persevere but I love read books.

Hi, Teri!
DeleteYeah, I'm very scared of rejection....silly, I guess. After all, there are always people who won't like what you create, anyway, just as there will always be those who will.
I'm glad there are people who are brave enough to put their stuff out there for others to enjoy, if they want to! I guess if no one dared to do this, we wouldn't be able to read as many great books as we have!
Thanks for commenting!! :)
I never knew that you wrote fiction Maria. I am very interested in reading your work. I will do so over the weekend. Fear of rejection can be an issue. I think that I might feel the same way if I wrote fiction.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to other interests my biggest issue is time. I wish that I did not spend so much of it at work.
Hey, Brian!
DeleteYeah....I decided to give that a try. It's not easy to write fiction, by the way. I Paid a lot of attention to style, and do need to work on my plotting. But the characters in these stories are not mine. I really need to create my own. That's why I stopped after a while. And yes, fear of rejection IS a big issue with me.
Time is a HUGE problem. I only work part-time now (20 hours a week), and I still wish I had MORE time! Lol.
Thanks for showing an interest in my stories, as well as for the nice comment!! :)
I can see how the rejection would be scary - especially with online fan fiction as there are always trolls - but writing sounds like fun if it's something you enjoy. I've always envied people who could draw. I have ideas of how I want things to look in my head but I can't translate it onto the page. I hope you reconnect with some of the things you enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHi, Katherine!
DeleteActually, the stories I wrote are on a site specifically for fan fiction stories. You have to be a member, and log in and everything. So I don't think there's much trolling there. People do review your stories, though. If you don't get that many reviews on a particular story, it means people don't like it.
I'm more scared of rejection regarding original works. There's rejection from the publisher, but then, even after your book gets published, there's rejection from the readers. So we'll see if I ever do write a book, in spite of this....
As for drawing, I LOVE it, but, just as with writing, I'm very much a perfectionist about it. So again I worry about people not liking what I draw. Some of my past drawings are realistic, while others are abstract.
I do want to reconnect with these activities, though!! I must somehow find the time to engage in them....
Thanks so much for the nice comment!! :)
You should do your drawing and writing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Happy Hopping!!

Hi, Elizabeth!
DeleteYes, I really should start engaging in these activities again. They do give me a lot of joyful moments, although I must admit, quite a bit of anxiety, as well.... That's because I'm such a HUGE perfectionist!
You're very welcome for the share! Thanks to you for coming by to comment!! :)
Feeling wistful makes me think your brain is telling you you should go back to writing and painting, even if you don't share.
ReplyDeleteHi, Emma!
DeleteYou are SO right!! I definitely SHOULD get back to these activities! And I should also share the results with you guys, too.
Thanks for stopping by to comment!! :)
I find it hard to fit in some of my interests around work and my family. Blogging and reading are my main outside interests. I enjoy writing stories and poetry--although I do it for myself and not for others. I have no interest in going public or trying to publish.
ReplyDeleteHi, Wendy!
DeleteI only work part-time, but still wish I had MORE time! Lol. And, although I don't have kids, I do go out and do things with hubby.
I didn't know you wrote stories and poetry! I really do wish you'd publish them, but I can relate to your not doing so.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!! :)
