On an island junkyard beneath a sky that glows with radiation, a deadly secret lies buried in the scrap.
Seventeen-year-old Eve isn't looking for trouble--she's too busy looking over her shoulder. The robot gladiator she spent months building has been reduced to a smoking wreck, she's on the local gangster's wanted list, and the only thing keeping her grandpa alive is the money she just lost to the bookies. Worst of all, she's discovered she can somehow destroy machines with the power of her mind, and a bunch of puritanical fanatics are building a coffin her size because of it.
If she's ever had a worse day, Eve can't remember it. The problem is, Eve has had a worse day--one that lingers in her nightmares and the cybernetic implant where her memories used to be. Her discovery of a handsome android named Ezekiel--called a "Lifelike" because they resemble humans--will bring her world crashing down and make her question whether her entire life is a lie.
With her best friend Lemon Fresh and her robotic sidekick Cricket in tow, Eve will trek across deserts of glass, battle unkillable bots, and infiltrate towering megacities to save the ones she loves... and learn the truth about the bloody secrets of her past.

Why I can't wait for this one!
I'm happy to see more Young Adult SF coming down the pike! I LOVE science fiction, and it's GREAT when I can also read YA right along with it! Besides, I ALWAYS gravitate toward strong female protagonists, one of which is featured in this novel! YAAAAAY!! So yeah, I'm pretty excited!! (Even though, unfortunately, this cover really doesn't do anything for me.....) On the positive side, at least I found out about THIS series from the very beginning! Lol. AND..... Kristoff already has a reputation for riveting writing, if you know anything about him!!
This sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI cannot help thinking just how influential Philip K Dick was to today's science fiction. His books were full of androids and tricky twists involving memory. He also liked to ponder the philosophical implications of robots and androids.
Hi, Brian!
DeleteWhile I haven't read any of Philip K. Dick's novels, I HAVE your commentary on a couple of them, and I do agree that his influence in more recent SF is indeed evident.
I don't know if Kristoff is as philosophical as Dick, since I haven't read any of his (Kristoff's) books, either. His plots do sound exciting, though!
Thanks for the interesting comment!! Hope you're having a GREAT Saturday!! (Sorry for the delayed reply....) <3 :)
I'm half super excited for this book and half dreading because I know Jay Kristoff can seriously break my heart with his books. But I seriously can't wait to get my hands on this book. YAY!
ReplyDeleteHi, Steph!
DeleteYeah, I've seen Kristoff's online comment (in his bio) that he doesn't like happy endings. (I deleted THAT when I copied and pasted the bio here, hee, hee!) But he IS a riveting YA author, from what I've heard!
Thanks for the nice comment!! Sorry for the late reply..... HUGS!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :)
This is the third time I've seen this one today (and I added it after the first). I've never read Kristoff but really have no excuse because I own several of his books.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a wonderful week!
Hi, Barb!
DeleteReally? WOW. Then it seems that several of us are on the same wavelength! Lol. but seriously, Kristoff is supposed to be an AWESOME author, whether writing solo, or with a co-author. And you own SEVERAL of his books? Well, hop on it, girl!! Lol. Well, I really shouldn't talk..... I do own "Illuminae". Lol again!! :) :)
Thanks for the nice comment!! Sorry for the late reply.... Hope you're having a wonderful Saturday!! (And I had a pretty nice week, except that it went by SO fast....)
HUGS TO YOU AND THE BOYS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I was thinking at first I hadn't heard of this author before, but then I look at the books he's written and I have--I just haven't read any of them. Several are on my wish list though. This one sounds like it will be good too. I hope you get a chance to read this one, Maria.
ReplyDeleteHi, Wendy!
DeleteYeah, he's written several. Some of them have been solo works, while others have been co-written with another authors, like Amie Kaufman.
This book DEFINITELY sounds like it will be TOTALLY FASCINATING!! I hope I can get to it some time this year.....
Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS TO YOU & MOUSE!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
I'm trying to get out of a mini Sci-Fi slump I fell into! This one sounds so good! I always wanted to read Kristoff! I heard wonderful things about this author! Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteHi, Daniela!
DeleteYeah, I need to read more SF myself! I read quite a few romance novels last year, and, while I LOVE that genre, I do want to read other kinds of books, too. And I think I've been neglecting the Sf genre.
Kristoff is supposed to be AWESOME!! Whether writing solo or with another author, I've heard such GREAT things about him! So I'm really hoping to read this one!!
Thanks for the nice comment!! HUGS!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
