This Week's Question
Is every day a reading day for you?
(Submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)
My Answer
Oh, ABSOLUTELY!! In fact, I have been known to get cranky if I don't get a chance to read every single day, lol. Even if it's just a few pages of either a printed book (preferably), or an ebook on my Android phone's Kindle app, or some Internet articles -- either on my laptop or phone -- I MUST read SOMETHING every single freaking day. MUST. It's a matter of SURVIVAL. No kidding.
Sometimes I read on the way to work, as my husband drives. I haven't been driving for a few years now. (It's a long story.) So I snatch those few moments to read. However, since the commute is not that long, I can't really get totally immersed in the book (whether printed or digital), so I often choose to read nonfiction.
I do have another little problem, though -- I start to feel guilty for not interacting with hubby. Lol. So then I feel I should stop reading, at least for a few minutes, so I can talk with him.
My best time to read is late at night, after hubby has gone to sleep. Then I sit in my reading nook, or on our couch (it has two recliners). Then I can REALLY get lost in a book! Since everything's quiet, that's prime reading time. Sometimes, I do read in bed, with my bedside lamp on, as, luckily, hubby is not a light sleeper.
It's actually great that I no longer have a day job, and that helps, too. I do have a part-time job, but I start at 3:30 PM, and finish at 9:30 PM. This is Monday through Thursday, so now I have three-day weekends all the time! Lol. And I can stay up as late as I want! In fact, I often go to bed around 4:00 AM. Since I've always been a night owl, I LOVE this!!
If I have a doctor's appointment, I always take a book with me. (Heck, I take a book with me everywhere I go, even if I know I won't have time to read it!) This means I don't get impatient, as other people do, when I don't see the doctor right away. If, for some reason, I don't have a book with me, then I grab a magazine from the rack in the waiting room. If none of the magazines interest me, I have PLENTY of ebooks on my phone's Kindle app. Lol. But I MUST read SOMETHING. For me, there's no such thing as just sitting there with NOTHING to read, twiddling my thumbs.
All those people who complain when their flights are delayed can't possibly be readers. Me? I wouldn't complain. I'd just curl up in the nearest comfortable chair at an airport lounge with a paperback or hardcover, and wait for my flight to arrive. (In this case, an ebook just won't cut it.) AND, if for some crazy reason I didn't have my own book with me, I would rush to the nearest newsstand and buy one!
Bottom line: even if I were in the middle of the Sahara desert, I would HAVE to have something to read, every single freaking day!

Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great topic. I also trey to read at least a few pages a day. On the busiest days when I am exhausted I almost always try to get a few pages in.
Though I also try to fill the time in waiting rooms and traveling with reading, I find concentration difficult. I have been trying to organize my time more efficiently so that I have more time to read at night. So far this has worked so I have a little more time.
Have a great weekend!
Hey, Brian!
DeleteOh, I LOVE this topic!! I think it's one that's dear to every bookworm's heart!
Yeah, I try to read at least a few pages each day, no matter how busy I am. i just REALLY need to have that in my life!
Concentrating on what you're reading, in places like waiting rooms and airports, can be difficult. It depends on why you're in those places, as well as what type of reading material you have. If you're in a doctor's waiting room to get the results of a biopsy or some other highly important test, for example, then you'll be much too nervous to read. If you can't find any REALLY interesting reading material, then your attention is sure to wander.
Reading at night really does seem to be the very best option, especially for us night owl bookworms. In my case, I don't have to get up early anymore, so I have the MUCH cherished freedom to read into the wee hours!
Hope you have a great weekend, too! Thanks for another FAB comment!! :) :) :)
I am like you....I have a book with me all the time. I agree about the flights being delayed...so what...read a book. :)
ReplyDeleteWaiting in the doctor's office definitely needs a book.
Have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for another wonderful answer.
Happy Hopping!!

Hi, Elizabeth!
DeleteYup! A book is a necessary tool for daily living!! Lol. And I'm very glad you agree about the delayed flights! We need a new slogan for that famous British saying, "Stay calm and...." This one would be: "Stay calm and read a book." I'll Google that; maybe it already exists. Lol.
I hate waiting of any type, with NOTHING to do. This can be in a doctor's office, in an airport, or even at a cashier or ticket line. So I LOVE to dip into a book at such times! Of course, as I told Brian above, if I'm in a doctor's waiting room to get some VERY important test results, I won't be able to concentrate on any book. Other than that, I'm fine with waiting while I get into a book!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, too!! You're very welcome for the answer, and thanks to YOU for the compliment!!
Thanks for always leaving such nice comments on these posts! Happy Hopping to you, as well!! <3 <3 :) :)
I'm with you on that one, Maria. (About the doctor's offices.) Most doctor's waiting rooms should have one of those Little Free Libraries i/o out-of-date magazines! :O)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Book Blogger Hop post!
Hi LuAnn!
DeleteDEFINITELY!! And I LOVE your idea of doctor's waiting rooms having Little Free Libraries! I had never heard of such a thing before, BTW. It's a GREAT idea, though!
Most doctor's offices do seem to have those out-of-date magazines. I will only read one of those if I see an interesting article in it. But I usually do carry a book with me!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!! :)
I try to read everyday too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Billy!
DeleteOh, reading EVERY single day is DEFINITELY a MUST for all of us bookworms! Lol.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!! :)
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you get to read everyday even though getting cranky about it may not be a good thing eheh
I try to read everyday but there's days on which I just can't. Because I need rest, or I have other stuff to do but oh well

Hi, Elisa!
DeleteI always try to make time for some reading. Sometimes, though, it's not nearly enough....
Of course, if I do get cranky, I try HARD not to snap at anyone I encounter that day! Lol.
There have been a couple of days here and there in which I really was too tired to read. But they're few and far between.
Thanks for visiting and commenting!! :)
I read on my commute to work too! Except I don't drive and my commute is long so sometimes I'm so immersed in my book that I almost miss my stop! Haven't missed one yet, thankfully *knocks on wood*
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, when I'm out of the house and I'm idle, that's when I'm most likely to read. When I'm home, I have so many things to do that I can't sit down and read (except for when I'm eating).
Hi, Edel!
DeleteOh, you probably read on a bus or train. I used to take the bus years ago, so I know the feeling of getting SO immersed in a book that I nearly miss my stop! In fact that DID happen to me a couple of times. Lol.
When I'm home, I'm usually blogging or doing some housework, but I do try to read at night. That's really the best reading time for me.
As for reading while I'm eating, I've never been able to do that. I eat first, and then reading is my "dessert". Lol.
Thanks for visiting and leaving such a nice comment!! :)
I take a book with me everywhere too! Even if I know darn well I won't be able to read it. Just having it with me is a comfort. I do have to read every day though or my anxiety overwhelms me. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi, Kitty!
DeleteThis is probably something that all of us bookworms do, lol. And yes, it IS comforting to have that book near!
I feel the same way you do if I can't read on a particular day. Except that to me, if feels more like crankiness. Perhaps that's the mask worn by my anxiety....
Hope you're having a great weekend, too! Thanks for the nice comment!! <3 :)
I have also been known to get cranky if I go a long stretch of time without reading. One of my students figured this out once and told me to go get a book one day when I was upset about something. Happy reading!

Hi, Eli!
DeleteI think that most, if not all, of us bookworms REALLY need to read every day, or we'll feel upset in some way. How funny that one of your students was able to figure out that you needed to get some reading done! Lol. Very perceptive of him or her!
Happy reading to you, too! Thanks for the great comment!! :) :)
