I discovered this gorgeous cover when I was searching for a book to feature in the "Waiting On Wednesday" meme. For a few minutes, I was torn between using it for my WOW post, and using it for "Shelf Candy Saturday". I finally decided to use it for my SCS post today. I just had to say something about this exquisite image!
Everything about this cover is pleasing to the eye, from the perfectly balanced composition to the soft shades of white and gray in the young woman's robe. The landscape in the background has echoes of Chinese and Japanese watercolors. The dynamism of the sweeping movement the young woman makes with her left arm is so effective. It shows her strength of will, and also reminds me of the petals of a flower. The title, done in a classic, but stylized, red font, is superimposed on the lower half of the voluminous sleeve, which makes the boldness of this image even more striking.
The young woman has a very determined look on her face as she stares unflinchingly out at the viewer. She is obviously a strong heroine!
That beautiful, graceful border placed within the perimeters of the image gives the cover a very ornamental, Oriental look; the cover would lose some of its aesthetic appeal without it. Also, the classic font used for the author's name goes very well with that border.
Since this novel won't be released until November 10th, I have been unable to find out who its highly talented creator is. However, during my Google search, I came across a blog post in which you can see what the printed book (oh, JOY!) will look like. You can access that blog post HERE.

ReplyDeleteThe use of white is so effective. I like the way that it divides the entire picture in two as it extends horizontally halfway down the picture.
Red is the perfect color for the title.
I agree that the background adds a lot to this picture. It looks like lush mountainous terrain that calls out for exploration.

I also agree that red is the perfect color for the title. In fact, this color is very prominent in Oriental decoration and art.
The landscape behind the central figure certainly adds some depth to the cover image, and yes, it does invite exploration of those mysterious mountains.
