Book Synopsis
An elegant conjurer of interconnected tales, a genre-bending daredevil,
and master prose stylist, David Mitchell has become one of the leading
literary voices of his generation. His hypnotic new novel, The Bone Clocks, crackles with invention and wit—it is fiction at its most spellbinding and memorable.
Following a scalding row with her mother, fifteen-year-old Holly Sykes slams the door on her old life. But Holly is no typical teenage runaway: A sensitive child once contacted by voices she knew only as “the radio people,” Holly is a lightning rod for psychic phenomena. Now, as she wanders deeper into the English countryside, visions and coincidences reorder her reality until they assume the aura of a nightmare brought to life.
For Holly has caught the attention of a cabal of dangerous mystics—and their enemies. But her lost weekend is merely the prelude to a shocking disappearance that leaves her family irrevocably scarred. This unsolved mystery will echo through every decade of Holly’s life, affecting all the people Holly loves—even the ones who are not yet born.
A Cambridge scholarship boy grooming himself for wealth and influence, a conflicted father who feels alive only while reporting on the war in Iraq, a middle-aged writer mourning his exile from the bestseller list—all have a part to play in this surreal, invisible war on the margins of our world. From the medieval Swiss Alps to the nineteenth-century Australian bush, from a hotel in Shanghai to a Manhattan townhouse in the near future, their stories come together in moments of everyday grace and extraordinary wonder.
Rich with character and realms of possibility, The Bone Clocks is a kaleidoscopic novel that begs to be taken apart and put back together by a writer The Washington Post calls “the novelist who’s been showing us the future of fiction.”

Why I'm waiting on this one!
First of all, I really need to read
more literary fiction.
My appetite was whetted with the book
I've just reviewed, and besides,
this one contains fantasy plus science fiction!
Also, the main character sure sounds like
a very intriguing person!
The above is the British cover, which
I much prefer to the minimalistic US cover!
What do you think of my choice?
Please leave your link
in the comments so I can come
over to your blog
and see what you're waiting on!
Great pick! The art cover is very unique... yes, yes, stuff like that impresses me. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it!

Hi, Arlene!
DeleteI'm so glad you like this! I wasn't sure about picking it, because I usually go with YA for my WOWs. However, the cover is GORGEOUS, and the plot is very intriguing! Besides, my most recent review was of a literary fiction novel, so decided to go for it!
I'm sure I'll greatly enjoy it!
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!! : )
Fantasy + Science fiction = sold.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that cover is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing this, I probably would of never heard of it.
Hi, Sayana!
DeleteThat's definitely an unbeatable combination! And I'm glad you like the cover, too!
You're very welcome for the share! Thanks for dropping by and commenting!! : )
This looks awesome! Great choice :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Ellie! Glad you like my choice! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!! : )
DeleteThis one does sound like it is worth waiting for. There are lots of elements in the plot description to male me thing that I would like this one.
ReplyDeleteI know that you do not usually like horror Maria, but the part about the child receiving some kind of messages as well as a group of dark mystics operating in the world remind me a little of Stephen King.
Hey, Brian!
DeleteYou know, I think you would indeed like this novel. It has plenty of intrigue, as well as science fiction elements.
Now that you mention it, the part about the dark mystics does sound like it could come from a horror novel. And you know how much I HATE, not only the horror genre, but especially Stephen King. Hmmm.....well, I could always see if I could buy a cheap ebook copy first....OMG. I can't believe I just wrote that!! But I will have no other choice, I guess.
Of course, I can always go to B&N when the book comes in, and read bits of it right here in the store. (Can you guess where I am right now? Lol.) We'll see what happens,.....
Thanks for the great comment!! : )
Hi, Fiza!
ReplyDeleteYes, the plot does sound very intriguing. Well, you never know.....if you try it out, you might end up liking it!
Thanks for visiting and commenting!! : )
Oh, that cover!!! It is so stunning! I think this is a great pick (I love that you're trying to pick reads outside our normal YA comfort zone), and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks so much for sharing, love, and for putting this on my radar.

Hi, Michele!
DeleteYes, that cover grabbed me right away!!!!
I do read (or feature, anyway) a lot of YA fiction, but I do like other genres, too. I consider this an eclectic book blog. So I do need to feature more books in other genres!
This novel looks SO intriguing, I just know I'm going to love it when I read it.!
