Stacking The Shelves #31: Pride and Prejudice/Northanger Abbey, Dark Wolf, A Reading Diary, Assertiveness for Earth Angels, Death of a Dream, Up From the Grave, Vampire Most Wanted

Welcome to
Stacking The Shelves!!

This is a weekly event hosted by Jennifer, Lili,
Stephanie, Helen, and Tynga @ Tynga's Reviews!

As the title implies, this is all about
sharing the books you're adding
to your shelves, be they physical or virtual.
For the complete rules, and to sign up,
just click on the link above.

Here's this week's haul!!
(Another very eclectic one!)

Books Purchased

Goodreads page about each book.

This is a beautiful leatherbound Borders
Classics edition which I actually
bought while the bookstore was still
in business.  I'm featuring it now
because it still looks brand new
(I take excellent care of my treasures),
and I have just found pics of
this book online!
It's available on Amazon, but is expensive.
On Barnes & Noble, it's available
at a cheaper price, from third-party sellers.

This is Feehan's latest in her widely
acclaimed Carpathian series!
This is such a gorgeous cover, too!
I know the novel inside
will live up to the promise!!

This looked so utterly fascinating that
I just had to buy it!
Manguel is an Argentine-born
writer, translator, and editor, who
has written many interesting
nonfiction books!

This is a must read for me, because it's
part of my heritage.  I left the
country at a very young age, and don't
know that much about its history.

This is on the metaphysical/spiritual side,
with some psychology thrown in.
I love Doreen Virtue's angel books!

I'm collecting all the books in this series,
so that, when I start it, I can just
go right from one to the other!
This series is a must for us crazy,
avid paranormal fan(g)s!!

This is another great paranormal series,
of which I've read  several books.
I love how Lynsay Sands injects humor
into these novels, and her
vamps are always super romantic!

What do you think of my haul?
What great books did you
stack on your shelves this week?

  2. That edition of Pride and Prejudice looks to be a great acquisition. I think that maybe, such high quality, hardbound books will be a key part of the future of the traditional book. (I know how you feel about E - books!).

The book on Cuban history looks very good too. I do know about the basics of Cuban history, but just the basics, I myself should dig a little deeper. In terms of yourself, I think that it always adds more interest when a history is related to one's own heritage.

    1. Hi, Brian!

When I saw this book at Borders, I snatched it up right away! And it's a good thing, too, because it only cost around $10.00, plus tax, if I remember correctly. Now it's over $40.00 -- on Amazon. Barnes & Noble has it, too, from third-party sellers, in used condition., around $15.00, plus S/H. I know a great bargain when I see one!

As for printed books in general, I sure hope they won't become so rare that they will only be available on demand. That would mean that bookstores would go out of business. I so LOVE walking into a bookstore and seeing shelves and shelves of those BEAUTIFUL objects.... You definitely know how I feel about E-books. I HATE them with a virulent passion!!!! Besides, how can anyone possibly curl up in a comfortable armchair or couch with a cold, lifeless MACHINE?! Definitely NOT me!! Lol.

I got the Cuban history book at a presentation, here in Miami, and the author signed it for me! Like you, I only know the basics of Cuban history. I was born in Havana, and barely remember that city. Since I have no relatives living on the island, thank God, I have not been back, either. I should at least learn more about the history of my native country!

I should also learn more about the histories of Spain, Scotland, and England. My father was born in Spain, and my mother's grandfather was from Tampa, Florida. His name was Henry Kincaid Hughes. I know those two last names are of Scottish and English origin. One of these days, I'm going to do some research on my family tree!

Thanks for another great comment!! : )

    1. Hi, Michelle!

Yes, pretty books are DEFINITELY necessary to a bookworm who also happens to be a bibliophile! I can't stand ebooks, precisely because of beautiful printed editions such as this one! So glad you like it, as well!
