Torn apart by Time, reunited by flames.

At Lavender House, Evie McIntyre is haunted by the whispers from her bedroom closet. Before she can make sense of their murmurs, the house "warbles" between times and transports her to the Civil War. Past and present have blended, and Evie wishes she'd paid more attention to history. Especially since former Confederate officer, Jack Ramsey, could use a heads up.

Torn between opposing forces, Jack struggles to defend the valley and people he loves. Meeting Evie turns his already tumultuous world upside down. Will solving the mystery of the whispers return her home, and will the handsome scout be by her side?

Against the background of Sheridan's Burning of the Shenandoah Valley, Jack and Evie fight to save their friends and themselves – or is history carved in stone?

Note
This mini-review is of the excerpt below, and
not the entire book.
I only do this kind of thing when I'm really interested in a book, which is the
case with this one!

This is certainly intriguing! I love the time switch feeling I get from this short excerpt, with the female protagonist's obvious disorientation. The mention of Doctor Who is cute and humorous, too. And her meeting with that mysterious man with the GORGEOUS eyes.....
Time travel romance is one of my favorite genres, so I will be sure to add this one to my collection!
I already want to know where the story goes from here!

What had happened to the room?

Nothing in the parlor was as it had been a short while ago. Furnishings suited to a monastery had displaced the frou-frou décor. Simple wooden chairs, stools, and a plain couch were arranged in a circle. A small table supported a large black book, possibly the Bible. Discarded knitting lay on a side table. A spinning wheel sat in one corner.

There were no frills anywhere. No lavender sprigged wallpaper or lacy valentines, or anything she remembered. Her grandmother’s cherished things were gone. Everything had changed, and yet, the layout of the room was the same.

Was she lost in a dream, or had she stepped into a parallel universe? That sometimes happened…in Doctor Who, not her world.

Oh, my,” she gulped, and blindly reached out to steady herself against the back of a chair. “Not what I was expecting.”

“Nor are you.” The man called Jack returned the match tin to his pouch and studied her by the flickering light, his sandy brows arching under the broad brim.

“Whew.” He thumbed his hat back. “You’re nothing like Hettie Wenger.”

“Not in this life,” she said in a bare whisper, realization nagging at her.

“Did you have another?”

She nodded, gazing into the most glorious greenish-brown eyes, like sun-dappled trees.

Wham.

Lightning bolt impact.

Married to my high school sweetheart, I live on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with my human family and furbabies. An avid gardener, I grow herbs and heirloom flowers and use them in my stories. The rich history of Virginia, the Native Americans (especially the Shawnee), and the Scots-Irish are at the heart of my inspiration. My English, Scottish, and Scots-Irish ancestors were among the earliest settlers in America.

I write historical romance set in the colonial frontier (The Native American Warrior Series), the American Revolution, Georgian England, and 20th-century America. I like a good ghost story, so some of my historical romances have paranormal and ghosts in them. In addition to historical romance and Native American/Western romance, I write time travel romance (some are Scottish time travels), Young Adult wolf shapeshifter paranormal sci-fi fantasy romance (The Secret Warrior Series), New Adult fantasy paranormal time slip romance (Somewhere In Time), and my latest ongoing series, Ladies In Time (Somewhere My Lady, Book 1), (The White Lady, Book 2). The latest one in this series is Book 3 -- Secret Lady, to be released in January, 2019.

I also write single titles, and nonfiction about gardening, herbs, and country life.

“I…am nothing.”
He takes a step forward, shaking his head twice, with absolute conviction. “You’re not nothing, Nova.”

In the Eon galaxy, Dominion controls any planet with solid Neron deposits, and Nova just found out they’re coming for hers. Korpillion isn’t supposed to have any Neron—the galaxy’s purest form of energy—but Nova Ainsley has been working with the owner of a secret mine for months, building highly illegal weapons that can wield Neron. She wants off Korpillion, and selling these weapons will buy her and her father a ticket to another planet in the galaxy.

Neron is incredible on its own, but there are those who can wield it to their will, granting them the ability to read minds, see the future, and destroy worlds—the Nero. But this is a galaxy where they are ceasing to exist, and Dominion owns the last one in the known universe, using him to take over and destroy billions of lives.

An encounter with the last Nero shows Nova her future: it’s with him. She will stand by his side one day, her fingers laced through his, love and adoration in both their eyes, a dark queen to his evil, pawn king.

Fate or destiny, Nova will do whatever it takes to change their future, and that of the galaxy.

The Neron Rising Saga is a series of episodes. Episode One is 30,000 words. Neron Rising is a slow-burn space-fantasy romance.

Note
This mini-review is of the excerpt below, and not the entire book. I only do this when I'm REALLY interested in reading a book being promoted either in a blitz or blog tour!

This excerpt has a rather poignant tone to it.... It's also a nice slice of book presented to readers, to whet their appetite for more! I certainly want to find out more. I can see that the female protagonist is a strong one. And I like her telepathic interaction with the guy who's most likely the male protagonist. In addition to the romance, of which there's a hint here, we also have the philosophical aspects of the novel, and it's very clear that this is dystopian fiction, as well.
I love it when an author combines a variety of different genres into one book! I think I'm going to DEVOUR this one!!

“What’s wrong?”
I look out over the city, and I can see everything that’s wrong.  All these people.  Suddenly I feel responsible for all of them.  “Have you ever had a secret?” I ask.
“I don’t know a single person who doesn’t have secrets,” he answers.  His voice is so calm.  There’s this low, deep timbre to it.  There’s something about it that’s unique.  I’ve never heard a voice that sounds like his.
“Well, have you ever had a secret that would affect billions of people?”
My stomach twists in knots just at the thought of it.
“I can’t say that I ever have had a secret of that scale,” he confesses.  “Surely, you don’t actually mean billions.”
I huff one short laugh and nod my head.  “Actually, I do.  And the thing that sucks about it is that I could tell people, but it would create so much chaos, I might actually make things worse.  I hate that.  I hate it so much, because it makes me feel responsible.”
“One person can’t be held accountable for billions,” he says.  His words are like a soft touch, like a hand on my back, rubbing for comfort and support.
“Sure they can,” I argue, even though I want to accept his words.  I’m in a self-depreciating spiral right now, and I have no intent to get myself out of it at the moment.  “Look at Cyrillius.  He’s destroyed trillions of lives.  And he doesn’t even feel guilty about it.”
Just saying his name makes my mouth taste bitter.  As the heir and owner of Dominion, he makes all the calls that affect every single solar system.  He could make the galaxy a better place.  He could stop the centuries of greed and money.  But he’s only taken things twenty steps further than his father and his grandfather before him.
“Seems like a little bit of a jump, comparing yourself to him,” he says quietly.  “Just a few days ago you were complaining about your boring life, and now you’re hiding a secret that could affect everyone on your planet?”
“Pretty insane how quickly life can change,” I muse.  Though, really, nothing has changed at all.  Other than now I have to figure out how to get me and my dad, and Zayne, off-planet.  “Know of anywhere good left in the galaxy?”
“Suddenly you’re also ready to move planet?” he asks.  There’s a thoughtful probe to his tone.
I shrug, even though he can’t see it.  “Know of any place?”
This is where I hate this part of our connection.  I hear his voice.  But that’s it.  I can’t read his body language.  I get impressions sometimes, but I don’t know if those are real, or my brain filling them in.
I want to read his face right now.  I want to have something to fill these longer pauses, to decipher what he’s thinking.
But I have nothing but his voice, echoing in my brain.
“Do you really think there’s any such thing as a good place, anymore?” he finally asks.
I consider his question as I look out at Korpillion.
This is supposed to be a good place.  But, as I look at it, I see the race for credits.  I see advertisements flashing bright in my face.  I see businessmen talking to prostitutes who are only interested in their connect-link accounts.  I see jobs, so many of them, that no one takes pride in, they just do it because it allows them to survive.
I think of Reena, whose goal isn’t to save anyone but herself and her crew.
I even think of my dad, who has no joy in life.  He just puts his head down and survives.
“I don’t know, anymore,” I say.  I hate the confession, but I am honestly not sure.
“I’ve been to a lot of places, and all I’ve seen everywhere is the innate drive to survive,” he says into my head.  “People will do whatever it takes to survive.”
“I wonder when we lost everything else,” I say.  “The few books that were stored before all of that was lost talk about all these other things, these principles.  Honor, glory, love.  When did we become a galaxy full of survivors?”
He doesn’t answer, because really there isn’t an answer.  These are just the deep thoughts spoken out loud between two strangers connected by a power neither of us understands.
“I wish I was there with you,” he surprises me with his honest words.
I straighten a little, and a smile creeps onto my face.  “I wish you were here, too.”  I pause, letting that confession fill me.  “Do you think we could ever meet in real life?”
He takes a considering pause.  “I think we have to be careful what we wish for, sometimes.”

A fast-paced fantasy romance with rich characters and immersive storytelling, Searching is the second book in the Fading series by award-winning author Cindy Cipriano.

To say Leath is traveling light is an understatement. She's only bringing three things on her trip. One is a silver heart locket—a gift from her longtime best-friend-turned-boyfriend Victor Santana. Next is a wedding token in the shape of a "J", from James Turner. And of course, she's packing her pistol. That's it. She knows that when she leaves Woodvine, even her own mother may not remember her in the shifted reality that will be left behind. Bringing anything else would be pointless. But she's driven now, by something that eclipses everything else, something she just got back: her memories. And now that she remembers James—she won't stop searching until she finds him.

LEARN MORE ABOUT SEARCHING!

Clean Teen Publishing Interviews the Author

One-liner for Searching?

How far would you search for "The One"?

More details?

Leath is packing light: just her two lockets (one from Victor, one from James), and of course, her pistol.  She knows that when she leaves Woodvine, even her own mother may not remember her in the shifted reality that will be left behind.  But she’s driven by something that eclipses everything else: her recovered memories.  Now that she remembers James, she won’t stop searching until she finds him.

Where did the idea for Searching come from?

Searching is the second book in The Fading Series. Searching takes up immediately where Fading left off, just as Leath puts her foot down inside Judaculla.

What genre is Searching?

Young Adult.
But – the entire series crosses genres. It’s a paranormal, dystopian, Young Adult romance mash-up. Searching is also a crossover, appealing to Young Adults and up.

Who would enjoy reading Searching?

Fans of Fading who are waiting to find out if it’s Victor or James.
And, anyone who has ever been in love with two people at the same time.

James is sort of a two-sides-to-one-coin kind of guy. Was it difficult, writing his character?

Definitely, but so worth it!
*sighs*
He’s drop-dead gorgeous and funny, but he hovers over dark territory. It was a challenge writing him because I wanted my readers to see what Leath sees in James. In Searching, fans will see just how deep James’s feelings for Leath go.

And Leath’s other love interest, Victor, was it hard to write him?

Not a bit.
*sighs again*
Victor is the definition of the perfect guy. He’s good-looking, funny, confident and charismatic. Not to mention he has an exceptionally beautiful heart.

Who is your favorite character in Searching?

Ever continues to be my favorite character. She’s the girl you love to hate. I think we’re all hoping that in the end, she’ll do the right thing. The problem is we lose faith in her each time she opens her mouth. As I continue writing the series -- I’m currently working on Book Three -- James is fast becoming a close second to Ever as my favorite character. I think readers will enjoy watching James’s growth from Fading to Searching to where I am now in writing the series.

Who designed the cover of Searching?

The talented Marya Heidel. Isn’t it stunning?!

How many books are in the Fading series?

There will be at least 4 books in the series.

How can readers keep up with you and the Fading series?

Anything and everything about The Fading Series can be found at Clean Teen Publishing or CindyCipriano.com.

Favorite lines from Searching

I wanted to touch him. So I did.
(page 1)

The first time I held hands with Victor Santana, it wasn't romantic. Not at all.
(page 3)

Victor's strong hand cradled mine, and he became my tether to reality.
(page 3)

His warm lips brushed against my ear as he whispered three little words. "I can wait."
(page 6)

Name: James Turner. Age: 17. Parents: Emancipated Minor.
(pages 10 - 11)

"I don't usually get this close to a girl, unless I'm going to kiss her," said the boy, giving me a playful grin.
(page 23)

When we were apart, it seemed as if all of eternity passed before I saw him again.
(page 110)

To one boy, I'd gladly give my heart. To the other, my life.
(page 130)

I wondered how long a person could live like this, so completely torn in half.
(page 130)

She could have any boy in the restaurant. Why was she falling all over mine?
(page 147)

But right now I had him. The boy of my dreams.
(page 174)

"I will never stop loving you," he said. "Not even in death."

Mini-Review

 Note
This is a review of the excerpts below, and NOT of the entire book. I only do this with books I'm REALLY excited about, and can't wait to read. In this case, I have already bought the Kindle Edition, and will be purchasing the paperback edition as well!! And that's the TRUTH.

Okay, so it might seem a bit unusual to see TWO excerpts from the same book, but I really couldn't decide between these two! The first one is full of paranormal tension, while the second is full of good ol' fashioned sexual tension...... Lol.  So, of course, both were appealing to me! Besides, although I've just met them, I really like these characters, and think they're heading for a very sweet, passionate romance! Plust, I love the whole angle of Bob, the male protagonist's deceased uncle, helping these two lovebirds realize they're truly meant for each other....
I really and truly cannot wait to find out more, and I'm VERY sincere, folks!
(I especially like how her dazzling smile suddenly made him unable to think....lol.)

Book Excerpt

Excerpt One
“Man it's chilly in here,” Hunter said suddenly, walking over to shut the window. “Must be a cold front coming in.”
“It is not a cold front,” she told him, standing up with renewed confidence. Bob was here. She wasn’t alone. She could convince Hunter she was telling the truth.
He gave her a strange look. “How do you know?”
“Because Bob is here,” she announced. “And when Bob is nearby it gets colder.”
Hunter stared back at her, his expression unreadable. “Don’t lie to me, Ashlyn. It will only make everything between us worse.”
“I’m not lying.” She reached out and ran her hand up his arm, feeling his goose bumps. “See how cold you are? That’s because your uncle is standing right here.” She gestured to the left of them with her free hand. “Right in this room.
He took a step away from her touch and shook his head. “I don’t believe you.”
She lifted her chin, pretending his retreat didn’t hurt. “Then I’ll prove he’s here.”
“How are you going to do that?” His eyes darted to the left of them, looking spooked. Hunter said he didn’t believe her, but his nerves were visible.
“Ask me something only Bob would know,” she challenged, looking him in the eye. “And I will tell you his answer.”

Excerpt Two
“Do you believe me?” she asked quietly.
He turned to look at her, needing to see her beauty and erase the ugliness that had just erupted in his life. “I do.”
In her golden green eyes, there was nothing but relief. She reached up and cupped his face in her hands, and before he could react, she had pressed a soft kiss on his lips. “Thank you,” she said, pulling back. “Thank you for believing me.”
He blinked hard, his heart hammering in his chest. She kissed him out of pure gratitude, and he wanted her to do it again. Only this time he would crush her to him, and never let go.
He forced his hands to his sides. Ashlyn had been through too much already. She was trying to help his uncle, despite her own predicament. It showed him that her heart was pure and wonderful. He had to focus on protecting that heart from his family. Instead of pursuing the feelings between them, he needed to push her towards starting her own life.
He took a breath and turned to her. “I do believe you, Ashlyn—”
“Call me, Ash,” she said, and then blushed, looking away. “I mean, if you want to. My brother always did.”
Her brother called her Ash, and now she was asking him to. It confirmed she felt those sparks between them too— sparks that were so damn hard to deny.  “Ash,” he corrected. As soon as he said it, she gave him a smile so dazzling he could no longer think.
