About the Book

You may think you know the story. After a miserable childhood, penniless orphan Jane Eyre embarks on a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester. Despite their significant age gap (!) and his uneven temper (!!), they fall in love—and, Reader, she marries him. (!!!)

Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Brontë, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

Why I can't wait for this one!

OMG. OMG. OMG. I NEED to get this book and IMMERSE myself in this revisioning of my FAVORITE classic of ALL time!!!!
I know, I know.....some purists out there will consider this to be literary sacrilege. But I just can't get enough of this particular story, because I just need my Jane Eyre fix!! (Yeah, I do need to reread the original.) I think that reading this will be a LOT of fun! Besides, that synopsis has made me VERY curious..... Just WHAT have these authors done with this immortal masterpiece? Inquiring minds (like mine!) want to know!!

This is the BESTSELLING first
book in the series!!

About the Author

Cynthia Hand is the New York Times bestselling author of several books for teens, including the Unearthly Trilogy, The Last Time We Say Goodbye, My Lady Jane (with fellow authors Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows), The Afterlife of Holly Chase, and the upcoming novel My Plain Jane (also with Ashton and Meadows). Before turning to writing for young adults, she studied literary fiction and earned both an M.F.A. and a Ph.D. in Fiction Writing. She currently resides in Boise, Idaho, with two cats, one crazy puppy, two kids, and an entourage of imaginary friends.

Because of two parents who were Greek myth geeks, I grew up thinking the latest fashion trends were inspired by Aphrodite, and a good conversational opener was, “So, which mythological character do you most resemble?” Despite these social shortcomings, I found a great husband who’s always my first reader. We live in Utah with our two young boys, who still have no idea why I'm at the computer all the time.

My debut book, Everneath, the first in the series of the same name, came out in 2012, followed by Neverfall, a novella (2012), Everbound (2013), and Evertrue (2014), .

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Utah and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Jodi Meadows wants to be a ferret when she grows up and she has no self-control when it comes to yarn, ink, or outer space. Still, she manages to write books. She is the author of the Incarnate Trilogy, the Orphan Queen Duology, and the Fallen Isles Trilogy (HarperCollins/Katherine Tegen), as well as a coauthor of My Lady Jane, and the upcoming My Plain Jane (HarperTeen).

  1. Hey Maria. Judging from the cover and synopsis this looks to be lighthearted and amusing. I think that the idea has iva lot of potential and this may be very good. On the other hand, such adaptations are sometimes terrible. I am curious what your thoughts wil be if you read this.

I do not think that I ever heard of a novel with three authors before.

    1. Hey, Brian!

Yes, it sure does! :) :)

I agree that these retellings are not always good. I DETEST the ones with titles such as "Pride and Prejudice with Zombies". There's another so-called "retelling" with the title "Jane Steele". In this one, Jane Eyre is actually a murderer! UGH. The plot synopsis starts with the sentence, "Reader, I murdered him." Needless to say, I will NEVER read that book!

I think it's really unfair that contemporary authors are doing these things with beloved classics. That's because the classic authors are no longer with us. If they were, these contemporary ones would be getting SUED right and left!!

In the case of "My Plain Jane", it sounds like the authors have taken a humorous approach to the original novel. When a writer does such a thing, I think it's usually because they love, admire, and respect the original, and are actually quite fond of it. I will only be able to see if all of these things are true in this case, though, when the novel is released, and I get to read it. Crossing my fingers.....

You know, I should have mentioned the fact that I have never come across a novel written by three authors before, either! This is indeed VERY unusual!

Thanks for the interesting comment!! <3 :)

  2. That's the second retelling of Jane Eyre I've run across this week. The first was a science fiction retelling called Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne. Three authors sounds interesting. I wonder how they pull it together. Hope you enjoy the book!

    1. Hi, Laura!

Oh, really? I might have seen the book you mention somewhere, too. I will DEFINITELY check it out! An SF retelling of "Jane Eyre" sounds FASCINATING!

Yeah, I don't think I've ever come across a book written by THREE authors! It's very common to see books written by two authors, but this is a real first!

I think I will LOVE this book!! I ADORE the original!! In fact, it's my FAVORITE all-time classic!! If these authors wrote with a fondness for the original, and I think they did, then I am sure to love this version, as well!! (Although, of course, I will ALWAYS prefer the original!!)

Thanks for commenting, and for sharing the SF book!! <3 <3 :) :)

    1. Hi, Barb!

Yeah, at least in THIS case, the publishers didn't change the cover style! I HATE it when they do that!!

I ESPECIALLY LOVE this second volume because the original happens to be my FAVORITE classic of ALL time!! I've read it twice, and I want to read it several more times in the future!
