National Book Award winner M. T. Anderson returns to future Earth in a sharply wrought satire of art and truth in the midst of colonization.

When the vuvv first landed, it came as a surprise to aspiring artist Adam and the rest of planet Earth — but not necessarily an unwelcome one. Can it really be called an invasion when the vuvv generously offered free advanced technology and cures for every illness imaginable? As it turns out, yes. With his parents’ jobs replaced by alien tech and no money for food, clean water, or the vuvv’s miraculous medicine, Adam and his girlfriend, Chloe, have to get creative to survive. And since the vuvv crave anything they deem classic Earth culture (doo-wop music, still life paintings of fruit, true love), recording 1950s-style dates for the vuvv to watch in a pay-per-minute format seems like a brilliant idea. But it’s hard for Adam and Chloe to sell true love when they hate each other more with every passing episode. Soon enough, Adam must decide how far he’s willing to go — and what he’s willing to sacrifice — to give the vuvv what they want.

Why I can't wait for this one!

This cover, although it's in color, reminds me of the old 1950s SF movies, like "The Day the Earth Stood Still". I think it's a very nice retro cover! And the plot sounds totally HILARIOUS!! Of course I NEED to read this book!! I also think I'm going to LOOOVE these aliens!! LOL.

    1. Hi, Brian!

Yes, I think it is indeed a very original novel. And I wold like to read more humorous stories, too! I used to kinda look down on those, but not anymore! There's enough drama in real life, after all.

I'll be looking out for this one in September, so you may be sure I'll review it when I get to it!

Yes, the cover is DEFINITELY GREAT!!

Thanks for the nice comment!! Happy Wednesday!! <3 :)

Hope you get to read it SOON and LOVE it!! HUGS!! :) :) <3 <3

  4. I do love the cover and it does sound like a fun read. I don't always have the best luck with alien books though (one of the few that even hated The 5th Wave) but I'm willing to give them more tries.

I really hope you love this one and hope you are having a great summer. Another heads up that there is no horror at The Farm this week. In fact, the boxer boys think you will quite like the choice we made.

    1. Hi, Barb!

I love this cover, too!! And I also love that humor is part of the story.

Since I'm an SF fan, I love alien stories, as long as they're not frightening in the least. Lol.

Oh, you didn't like "The 5th Wave"? I haven't read that one, but, to be honest, the plot doesn't really call out to me. I do have the book on my Goodreads shelves, but I put it there because of all the hype. Maybe I'll take a crack at it....I don't know.

I think I'll really enjoy this book because of the combination of aliens and humor. I really like that!!

Yeah, I'm having a great summer so far!! I'll be on vacation for 2 weeks, at the beginning of August. I'm really looking forward to that!! :) :)

I really appreciate your always letting me know when there's no horror at The Farm! Lol. You're so funny!! :) I'm sure I'll like what the boxer boys have picked out this week!! Lol.

Thanks for the great comment!! Happy Wednesday!! HUGS TO YOU & THE BOYS!! <3 <3 <3 :)< :) :)
