My Thoughts About This Cover

This is such a stunning composition! It's so bold, the overall design so simple and effective.

I love the combination of the strong, confident woman holding what looks like a rifle from the Old West, and the images in the background -- the aqua-toned, ghostly figure of the man, and the two images of the moon. All of these images just go together so beautifully!

The aqua tone, which shades off into darker blue on the two moons, is simply music to my eyes! I absolutely love it! This tone is picked up in the font used for the title, which I totally love, as well. This font is very modern-looking, yet classic, in a way. It fits this cover perfectly, as it's stark and stands out very well against the images in the background.

The one complaint I do have, in spite of my praise for this cover, is that it's not immediately obvious that the woman is wearing a hat. Instead, it looks, at first, like some sort of ear protruding from her head. That's because of bad cropping. Had the image been cropped a bit higher, the hat would have been more visible. I still love this cover, which is making me want to pick up this book on Amazon!

Although the images used on this cover are from Shutterstock, the artist/designer who put them together is Syd Gill, who runs Syd Gill Designs, a company specializing in book covers. He really has a great talent for composition and design! And he's also a writer!

What do you think of this
week's cover?
Would it entice you to buy
this book and read it?

  1. I really like the moons in the background. They seem to be a subtle visual clue that this book is more then a Western.

The cropping does indeed make the hat look like the woman has Yoda ears :)

  2. Hey, Brian!

Yeah, this is a combination of Western and science fiction. I've checked it out on Amazon, and it looks really good! I like the writing.

You know, I was trying to think of what the hat brim reminded me of. I could see it looked like some sort of elf ear, but you hit the nail on the head -- Yoda ears!! Yes, that's it! Lol. It's too bad the designer didn't notice that.....because otherwise, this is a beautiful cover! But that Yoda ear kinda ruins it...

Thanks for the great, and funny, comment!! : )
