The Book Bundle

Here is this week's question:

If you had the money, what would
your own personal library
look like? What would be in it?
What colors, decorations, etc.,
would you put in it?

This is, of course, the dream of every passionate bookworm/bibliophile in the world! Which of us wouldn't want such a wonderful thing?

Okay, on to my personal book addict paradise! First of all, I would want more than one level. So, I would have a spiral staircase adorning my library. And it would look something like the beautiful one pictured below.

The walls around this staircase would be full of original art by my favorite artists -- Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, and Alphonse Mucha, a 19th-century artist who created beautiful Art Nouveau posters.

The second and third levels would contain sections for each of my favorite genres: YA Fiction, classics and literary fiction, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and science fiction. There would also be a section for nonfiction books. Art books would all be together, philosophy too, and so on. Each one might look as much like this picture as possible!

Here is another idea of what the two levels of my home library might look like. There's a spiral staircase to the left in this picture, but, of course, mine would like the one above!

I love the size of this particular library. There are obviously LOTS of books here! And yet, they are all easily accessible!

Here are two more options. The first one is eclectic, which I really like! I love those classic-looking bookcases! That Oriental fan is especially nice, as is the comfy gray armchair.

Here's another lovely option. I adore that blue couch, with all the beautiful pillows! However, there's too much light coming in, so I would make sure that my books were protected. As every book lover knows, too much direct exposure to light can fade book spines.

This next picture shows a traditional-looking home library with a rustic look, which makes it very, very cozy. I love the fireplace, the combination of warm colors on the carpet and walls with the wood cabinets, the map suspended from the ceiling along with the quaint chandelier, the very comfy couch, and, of course all the books! I am also delighted with the printed border running along the bottom of the cabinet, fireplace, and shelves to the left.

As you can see, I have rather eclectic tastes! Sometimes I gravitate toward a more contemporary look, and sometimes I go for something a bit more traditional. Nothing is too good for my printed treasures!

  3. Hi, Liza!

Yeah, maybe those stairs could be dangerous. But, if I had a lot of money to build this library, I could afford to have the stairs just for show. Lol. I just happen to love spiral staircases, for some reason. Maybe because of the cover of "Cruel Beauty"....

Thanks for following and commenting! : )

  4. Hi, Angelica!

I love it, too, although maybe I'd go with the first library pic. But wait, I would have tons of money, right? So dahling, I'd get ALL of these! Lol. But I do love that blue couch!

Yeah, isn't that staircase amazing? Glad you love it! I think it would complement my library (libraries) perfectly!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting!! : )

  5. Another great post Maria.

I love the idea of a multilevel library and I love those stairs. I also like the idea of hanging artwork in home library.

I tend to gravitate to the more elegant, older looking libraries.

One aspect to think about, I suspect that most of us would be constantly adding books. So one would need to ensure that we start with plenty of room for expansion.

  6. I'd have wall to wall shelves, a comfortable chair/recliner and a view of a beautiful garden.

  8. Hey, Brian!

Thanks so much for the nice words!

Yeah, I'm totally in love with those stairs! I love wrought ironwork in the Art Nouveau style!

I thought of including some pics of grander, more traditional libraries, but....I don't know that I would entirely like that type of thing. I prefer cozy library spaces (as well as somewhat quirky ones).

You bring up an important issue -- that of having enough room for all the future books we will inevitably purchase. Of course, the grand libraries, such as those in French chateaus, can accommodate a LOT of books. The only thing a bookworm has to do is win the lottery, marry a wealthy person, or inherit from a long-lost uncle.....then they can buy one of those! Lol. But that's what this post is all about -- the type of place we would pick if money were no issue. So I guess I should have picked something along the river Loire....

Thanks for the great comment!! : )
