Why do I love this cover?

This is an exquisitely detailed cover!  It looks as if the two people are on a very ornate stage setting, either performing a Shakespeare play in 19th-century dress, or perhaps a Verdi aria.  It was the balcony that reminded me of Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet, of course).  It certainly looks as if the man is shyly declaring his love for the woman, who seems to have been interrupted in her reading, and is pensively listening to his declaration.

The drawing and colors are exquisite, as well.  I especially love the intricate folds of the woman's gorgeous dress, and the soft pink tones of most of the cover.

The balcony is absolutely beautiful also, as well as meticulously detailed.  It looks very much like something  from the 19th-century.  Indeed, the plot of this novel has much to do with the last years of that time period, evoking such people as Oscar Wilde and Aubrey Beardsley.

The dreamy-looking landscape in the background is a perfect complement to the rest of the cover.

The font used for the title is absolutely beautiful and graceful, and has a definitely medieval look to it.

In short, this is the type of cover that makes me want to read a book right this very minute!  I wish I knew who the very talented artist was, but again, I have not been able to get any information about that person.  The Amazon reader was no help at all this time!

  1. Another great cover Maria.

This too makes me want to read the book. I have read a few by Moorcock but not this one.

In addition to everything that you mention, I like the fact that there are books arraigned around the characters.

Oh, the books at the bottom of the balcony! Yes, I should have mentioned that! Of course that makes this cover even MORE attractive!! Well, heck, books make just about ANYTHING more attractive! Lol.
