Waiting On Wednesday #63: Nameless, by Lili St. Crow

This is a weekly book meme, hosted by
which features future releases that
we book bloggers
are eagerly anticipating!

Here's my pick for this week!

Nameless
(Tales of Beauty and Madness #1)
Lili St. Crow
Hardcover, 304 pages
Razorbill
April 4, 2013
Fairy Tale Retellings, Fantasy,
Young Adult Fiction

From the Goodreads Synopsis

When Camille was six years old, she was discovered alone in the snow by Enrico Vultusino, godfather of the Seven—the powerful Families that rule magic-ridden New Haven. Papa Vultusino adopted the mute, scarred child, naming her after his dead wife and raising her in luxury on Haven Hill alongside his own son, Nico.

Now Cami is turning sixteen. She’s no longer mute, though she keeps her faded scars hidden under her school uniform, and though she opens up only to her two best friends, Ruby and Ellie, and to Nico, who has become more than a brother to her. But even though Cami is a pampered Vultusino heiress, she knows that she is not really Family.

While I've heard of this author before,
I had no idea that she wrote
paranormal fiction and urban fantasy,
let alone young adult fiction.
I like the plot of this one quite a bit,
since I'm a sucker for fairy tale retellings!!
Having done some research,
I now know that St. Crow is also the author
of a much-praised paranormal series,
namely, the Strange Angels series,
which features
vampires, werewolves, and...zombies.
The latter are not my favorite
paranormal creatures.
So I will not be reading this series.
As for Nameless?
Oh, I'll definitely pick this one up,
because it's a distinctly original version of
Snow White!
I love the spin the author has put on
an old childhood favorite!

  6. Hey maria - I also like it when fairy tales are "re-imaged". Is the setting of this novel an alternate New Haven Connecticut? Is that the name of a mythical place?

  7. Hey, Brian!

Yeah, fairy tale re-tellings are really fascinating!! However, I don't know if the setting of this story is an alternate New Haven. Guess I'l find out when I get the book. And I definitely will!!
